Episcopal/Anglican[edit]

I removed the following (but not the sentence before it) added by an anon who might have a WP:COI (based on the wording)

"St Michael's began its current phase of life in 2006, when the congregation of the Church of St James the Less left the St James property in North Philadelphia for its current locations. St James the Less had disaffiliated from the Episcopal Church in 1999, and the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania sued the parish in 2001 to seize the property. The Pennsylvania courts eventually decided that while the parish owns the property, there exists an “implied trust” in favor of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania. Given the choice between the property and the faith, the congregation chose the faith, and moved out. While it has been hard to leave behind the landmark property, the congregation is committed first and foremost to the faith once received from the saints.

Fr David Ousley has been rector since 1983, having previously served parishes in New York and Connecticut. He attended Yale College and Nashotah House Theological Seminary, and holds a Ph.D. in historical theology from the University of Chicago."

I have a certain amount of sympathy for the members of the congregation that left, but the text above repeats some things and does seem to have their POV, as well as their rector's bio.

Isn't there an article on the split we could refer to? either in WP or elsewhere? Perhaps there could be a separate article on St. Micheals (is it known for anything else?) I'm sure their new affiliation must be referred to in the Continuing Anglican movement article. It's better to check first, write later, of course.

BTW, I'm a bit skeptical of the claim that they just happened to get these plans in the mail, but that claim does seem to be more or less in the sources. Can anybody find a source that has a story that's a bit more believable?

Cleanup[edit]

I cleaned up this article this morning, but don't have the time nor resources today to finish the job. I believe the congregation was a historic Anglo-Catholic one, but the nearest seminary library which might have a history of the Oxford Movement in America is closed today. IMHO the new history section could include mention of the surrounding geographic area as residences of Philadelphia's post Civil war merchants, industrialists and other leaders, explaining the interment section.Jweaver28 (talk) 13:21, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
