Weak oppose By the letter of the guideline, yeah, that would be correct. But this guy had one season in Canadian football. He's American, played American football before that season, and it looks like he'll play American football for many more years. Comment - I made the move, forgetting he'd played in the CFL so I apologize for that. Still, I'm not a fan of the term "gridiron" since I don't believe it's a commonly used term on either side of the border (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Would it be wrong to simply say Chris Matthews (football player), since there doesn't appear to be a soccer player by that name (yet)? Mosmof (talk) 14:29, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly—"gridiron football" is fine as an umbrella term for an international encyclopedia, but it's pretty uncommon, at least in North America. I don't think (football player) is a very good idea, though. It's not consistent with other qualifiers, as WP:D prescribes. --BDD (talk) 15:33, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose per BDD. Matthews is an American. He attended an American college. He now plays in the NFL, and for most people will be most remembered for his performance in the most recent Super Bowl. Sure he played two seasons in the CFL, but I really think this is a move we're better off ignoring since "gridiron football" isn't a very common term these days.
