Early years?[edit]

There is next to no mention of the early years of their career -- did they appear in comedy clubs? Theaters, as a sketch comedy duo? Opening up for rock bands? If they started in Vancouver, then they must have had some significant success before a major record label released an album of their comedy sketches. This part of their history needs to be expanded.Msalt (talk) 02:18, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopedia.com (undoubtedly copyrighted) says that the duo "met in 1968 in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Cheech had fled to avoid the U.S. draft during the Vietnam War. Together they co-founded an improv group called City Works, and performed in a nightclub owned by Chong's brother. By 1970 they were known as Cheech and Chong, and were performing in nightclubs in Toronto and Los Angeles." Still many unanswered questions -- how did Cheech resolve his draft status? The amnesty was not until years later. And how did they make the leap from Tommy Chong's brother's nightclub to gigs in LA and Toronto two years later.Msalt (talk) 02:22, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I found a reputable source (Rolling Stone feature on the duo in 2018, recounting their history). I'm going in.Msalt (talk) 02:39, 9 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
