First woman network correspondent to report from the floor of a national convention?[edit]

In his recent biography, John Dickerson suggests that his mother, Nancy Dickerson was the first woman to report from the floor of a convention for a network.

When Cassie Mackin, an ABC report who had covered the 1972 presidential race, died in 1982, the newspapers claimed she was the first newswoman to report from the floor of a convention. Mom had been the first -- Mackin had been the first for NBC.

Dickerson's New York Times obituary [1] mentions that she covered Lyndon Johnson during the 1960 presidential election for CBS, but doesn't mention if she broadcast from the floor. For the 1964 and 1968 conventions, she worked for NBC. If Mackin was indeed NBC's first woman floor reporter, then John Dickerson would be referring to the 1960 Democratic convention. --Leuliett (talk) 16:53, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
