Name of the railway[edit]

The name of the railway included "Dumbartonshire" with an "M", and this article title is incorrect. The county is spelt with an "N" in more recent times, but that's not the point: the railway spelt its name with an M.

This is explained in Casserley page 172, and all the early Parliamentary and trade articles (in Google Books for example) correctly use the M.

Not sure how to handle this, as hundreds (yes hundreds) of Wikipedia articles link to this page under the N title. Even railways in the far north of Scotland link to it, I don't know why. But renaming the article would involve a massive number of edits. Maybe just a redirect.Afterbrunel (talk) 05:29, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why would hundreds of edits be needed? Moving the page to its correct title will create a redirect from the old. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:35, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done. There's a terrible lot of "What links here" to the redirect page. Will these get automatically rectified? Afterbrunel (talk) 15:51, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, but there should be no need to alter them all: WP:NOTBROKEN. Start with the navbox (like this), wait for that to pass through the job queue, then see what's left. Only those links which are unpiped or where the visible part of the link has the "Dunbartonshire" spelling need altering. --Redrose64 (talk) 05:31, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in the article[edit]

Leaving aside the incorrect title of the railway, this article has some errors and does not portray the history of the company in a grown-up way. I don't like writing "dubious" in the face of the article, but it wasn't "also known as Dumbarton & Balloch Joint Railway" -- that came much later. The idea that the arrival of the turntable was a major event in the history seems strange. I propose to write a better article under the proper company name and convert this page into a redirect.

Comments please? Afterbrunel (talk) 07:02, 14 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have had a go at this. Afterbrunel (talk) 15:52, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
