Football honours[edit]

CR Flamengo was champion for the eighth time of the Brazilian Championship and not 7 as it is in the article.

CBF, the highest entity of Brazilian football and organizer of the League, recognizes Flamengo as 8 times champion of Brazil.

@LuanCastle: The STF has already stated that the champion of the 1987 Brazilian championship was the Sport. What Flamengo won that year was the Copa União. Some sites report that the CBF website cited that it would be "eighth" in the club's history, but I didn't find such news on the official CBF website. Recently, CBF stated that it recognized Flamengo as the 1987 champion "a título de opinião". Flamengo has yet to open any discussions at FIFA regarding the imbroglio; if it opened, there is still no official manifestation of the maximum entity of football (soccer). ✍A.WagnerC (talk) 21:25, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Someone is adding Flamengo as champions of Libertadores 2022 prior to the Final — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.81.176.155 (talk) 15:37, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Flamengo Rowing Club[edit]

I'm torn, since there are not a lot of sources using the term "Flamengo Rowing Club", but it seems like that should be the name on the English Wikipedia, as that is the wp:commonname in English. It doesn't seem likely that English sources would use "Clube de Regatas do Flamengo" in place of "Flamengo Rowing Club", as the latter is a direct translation into... English. Before I send to a WP:RM, I want to see if there is consensus so that I just move it without a formal discussion. Dennis Brown - 18:03, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just another bump, two weeks in, to remind others that this is on the table and I'm likely to move the article to the WP:COMMONNAME used in English. Discussion beforehand is welcomed. Dennis Brown - 11:07, 11 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's been a month, no arguments or comments, so I'm going to just move the article as there appears to be zero contention to it. I will leave this name as a redirect, of course. Dennis Brown - 17:06, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Clube de Regatas do FlamengoFlamengo Rowing Club – WP:COMMONNAME in English. I had posted my intent to move to the English name, being this is the English Wikipedia and this was the name English sources uses. I posted three times on the talk page, waited a full month, no disagreement emerged, so I moved. Then someone moved it back without any discussion, without any reply. Rather than get into a tit-for-tat, it seems more logical to just bring it here after a failed good faith attempt discussion on the talk page. Dennis Brown - 14:18, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose, not convinced it's the COMMONNAME in English.--Ortizesp (talk) 22:46, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, I've never seen Flamengo being called Flamengo Rowing Club, otherwise as a translation along with the original name in Portuguese. The club is worldwide known as Clube de Regatas do Flamengo or simply Flamengo. Xguilex (talk) 01:10, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. GiantSnowman 10:11, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - absolutely not the commonname; just a direct translation. GiantSnowman 10:14, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - is a proper name, it makes no sense to be translated Svartner (talk) 12:03, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Per WP:SNOW. But be consistent: if we're translating everything, shouldn't it be "Flemish Rowing Club"? Along with "Palm trees", "Youth", "Saints" etc. Bring back Daz Sampson (talk) 17:15, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. WP:UE does not mandate slavish translation of all foreign-language terms into English. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:31, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
