Copine scaleCOPINE scale — Common name for this uses capitalization because it is an acronym. Stillwaterising (talk) 12:53, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article-multiple issues[edit]

This is article was created by a new user as his/her's first article. There needs to be more references and more inline citation. Article needs to be checked for accuracy. Article needs to be Wikified. This article claims to describe the new version of the Copine scale while Child_pornography#Typology describes the older 10 point scale. Article needs to rewritten and expanded to include information about both scales. - Stillwaterising (talk) 13:54, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've updated the 5 point to use the correct name of SAP scale. This seems to resolve the article conflict. Other issues seem pretty minor at this point and have been mostly resolved. - Stillwaterising (talk) 16:11, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unlink this page from the Child Pornography page[edit]

Someone seriously equated "bestiality" (interspecies sex) to torturing someone? Just wow...this whole article really needs to be removed from Wikipedia and buried. Whoever came up with this scale clearly had psychological or religious issues about sex. At the very least it should be removed from the "child pornography" wiki page due to its absurdity. The child porn wiki page is already filled with enough totally absurd information without this added to it. Swiftpaw (talk) 17:05, 14 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever your feelings about this scale, it and it's connection with child pornography are both notable and verifiable. The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is notability and verifiability, not truth nor (lack of) absurdity. Thryduulf (talk) 00:26, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Recording truth is Wikipedia's goal, but seeking truth in those subjects is beyond the scope, you're right. I think this article does okay with reporting about this scale after I re-read it as far as the COPINE scale itself being opinionated, but this article staying unbiased. I retract at least parts of my original statement. Swiftpaw (talk) 12:42, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Theraputic" section doesn't make sense[edit]

Things start off okay. "The COPINE scale was originally developed for therapeutic psychological purposes." Now, I get lost. "More specifically, it is used to distinguish between child erotica and child pornography. In an article by professor Max Taylor, one of the academics working for the COPINE project, it is stated that: "[t]he significance of this distinction is to emphasise the potential sexual qualities of a whole range of kinds of photographs (and other material as well) not all of which may meet obscenity criteria." That is all purely discussing the definition of these two terms, "child pornography" and "child erotica", and the legal implications of those terms, most likely to make declaring an image illegal or legal easier. What does defining those terms and their legalities have to do with getting more specific about some kind of therapy? What does therapy have to do with the difference between "porn" and "erotica"? This just seems like someone put in filler material just to justify starting an entire section about this scale somehow being used in "therapy". Swiftpaw (talk) 12:38, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On a related note, I've watched youtubes filmed in public places, just like everybody else. That automatically makes me a level 1 offender. It makes no sense.137.205.183.114 (talk) 06:47, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree with the above criticism of the therapy section somewhat. I also have to say that the article fails to adequately explain why how the scale is used by U.K. law enforcement. It's use in law enforcement should be better explained in the article. --173.228.119.230 (talk) 23:16, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
