Mixtape: The Abstract and The Dragon[edit]

History:

Please explain why you reverted my referenced non-destructive edit. Thanks. DanteLectro (talk) 05:27, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
They were both the same thing, so your edit made no sense. Koala15 (talk) 15:17, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, they were not. This mixtape has two variations: the full 28-track "The Abstract and The Dragon"[1] released in 2013 which is free for download on livemixtapes.com (it's linked to from Billboard[2] and the album's official website[3]), and an abridged 10-track version called "The Abstract Dragon" made available for purchase in 2014 on iTunes, Amazon and others. The album covers differ respectively. The latter is a derivative of the former but they're hardly the same thing. You haven't done your research and you were being self-righteous. DanteLectro (talk) 01:14, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This just looks like an unauthorized download to me, definitely nothing different. Koala15 (talk) 01:22, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Now, Rolling Stone says "Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes Drop Free Mixtape"[4], and links to theabstractandthedragon.com and livemixtapes.com. Pitchfork and Billboard also link to the same sites. This version of the mixtape has 28 tracks and it was released in December 12, 2013, for free.

On February 4, 2014, a paid version was released with 10 tracks. It's available on iTunes and Amazon, among others.

Basically, The Abstract Dragon is an abridged, better mastered, paid version of The Abstract and The Dragon. One is a derivative of the other, but they have different titles, different tracklists, and most importantly different payment models. I've done enough research here to prove my point and I've seen this kind of version separation before on several discography pages on Wikipedia. I wanted this info up here because these official versions exist. Normally, I would put this version info in the album's own page, but it hasn't one. DanteLectro (talk) 02:40, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Do we have any source saying this abridged version is an official release by the artists? It was not released by any of their labels and I see nothing of them promoting it on Twitter (which they would be if they were getting paid off of it), and no reliable sources reported or covered it. So looks like it is a bootleg, mixtapes are illegally sold on iTunes/Amazon all the time without artist consent. If reliable third party sources covered this re-release I would consider it being included, but until then, we are not going to advertise illegal sales of free works. STATic message me! 02:54, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It's not impossible that you're right, but you're jumping to wild conclusions. Albums are in most cases released by labels, not the artists themselves. What "it looks like" to you is actually personal opinion, origianl research, not based on evidence. I'm gonna keep looking into this. DanteLectro (talk) 03:09, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find anything good, it seems you may be right. (Though, that further proves they're definitely not "the same" as Koala15 kept saying.) I don't endorse illegal sales of free or not free works of any kind either. DanteLectro (talk) 03:31, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not wild conclusion as it turns out huh? I said it would have been released by their record labels, not a random label. This is a discussion page, the point is to give you opinion and stating it is not WP:OR. But it looks like the plot thickens. The 10-track project "The Abstract Dragon" debuted at number 27 on the UK R&B Chart this week. From looking up the label Dundridge Entertainment, they appear to release projects, for retail sale in the UK. They also did it with the Kendrick Lamar EP, but the fact that the artists have not promoted it, I am not sure if it is an official release. To be honest, to me it looks unofficial. I notice they cut everything that would have been a copyright violation (such as the Tribe songs). STATic message me! 02:49, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that Leaders of the New School discography be merged into Busta Rhymes discography. I think that the content in the Leaders of the New School discography article can easily be explained in the context of Busta Rhymes discography, and the Leaders of the New School discography article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Busta Rhymes discography will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned. 71.82.112.140 (talk) 16:24, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
