In editing this, I removed the following sentance.

Prior to that date, porcelain poker chips brought south by Chinese merchants had been a commonly used currency.

If someone can substantiate this, it ought to go in the article Myanma kyat, since this deals with the first currency of Burma.

I used to work for the American Numismatic Association museum, we had a collection of them. And no, the kyat is the modern currency, so it would go here, where I put it. Chris 04:57, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you read the kyat article, you'll see that the first kyat predates the rupee. If these poker chips had a local name, they ought to be in their own article, linked to from kyat and rupee. Otherwise, please put all you can in the kyat article.

1852?[edit]

I'm assuming that if notes of this currency weren't issued until 1897 and coins weren't issued until much later that the Burmese rupee was not introduced in 1852. --Aamsse ^{talk to me} 23:23, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
