Pronunciation

How is the name pronounced? I'm thinking either "En-claw-vay" or "En-clave", the second having a silent E. You'd expect they'd want to have it be the former because it sounds more Latin, whereas the latter sounds like a mathematical term. It could also be pronounced "On-clave". "On-Clave" (silent E) is the correct to pronounce Enclave.

If pronounced properly, Buick's SUVs would be like this.

Rainier- ren-yay (French) Terraza- terr-ah-saw (Spanish, double R is rolled) Enclave- en-claw-vay (Spanish) Rendezvous- Rawn-day-voo (French)

You are close. It is prounoucned ahn-clave with a long A and silent E in the second part. Pronounce it like CAVE, but with an L in it.
Enclave is a a word in American English. Based on the intent, I think it's a pretty good name for this vehicle if it turns out the way they are currently planning.Ultimate ed 17:45, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Similar Vehicles

I've changed the similar vehicles box back to what I had put in previously. The ones that had been listed are all truck based SUV's, not crossover vehicles. They are not similar to the Enclave. I could possibly have seen putting vehicles like the Nissan Murano or the Toyota Highlander as they are at least car-based crossovers. However, Buick is targeting this more upmarket, so I feel the similar vehicles I've listed are appropriate and the Toyota and Nissan would be better listed as similar to the GMC and Saturn versions of this platform. 8 passenger seating?

In the article it says that the Enclave 8 passenger seating, but the Buick website says it will only have six! Where did eight come from? Also, someone should talk about all the expected entertainment features and the like if they haven't been talked about already. Thats incorrect. On there website under specs it says seating is 7 with a 60/40 split. Also you can get $495.00 off your purchase getting bench seating, which sits 8. (yes, it cost less to get bench seating)

Price to Compete

Buick Enclave is targeting to compete in the luxury market of SUV and CUV. Before they roll out this vehicle, the manangement at Buick should seriously consider the price. The target price range for Buick is quite close to the price of Acura and Infiniti SUV. This will be a point of failure. Consider this, why would a consumer spend $40K on a Buick when he can own an Acura or Infiniti for same price. Unless Buick is $8,000 cheaper then the established & well reputed competitors the company will not succeed in penetrating this class. Advice would be for Buick to roll out Enclave priced $5,000 less then competitors plus throw-in a $3,000 rebate (total $8,000 less then competitors). Later as the company makes big sales, the company can always remove the $3k rebate. Who ever wrote that.. Tell me why GM would put a rebate on a car like the Enclave that is SELLING OUT ACROSS THE NATION! HUH! ANSWERS PLEASE!?!?! THANKS!

Well, having had the transmission drop out on our Acura MDX at around 95k miles (and that was remarkably good - other owners have lost transmissions after only 40k miles), don't see where Buick has to make any concessions. So you free image advocates won't be so quick to revert, I want to let you know that GM is allowing all of the images on [media.gm.com Their media site] to be licensed under a CC 3.0 license, and well, I think they beat a random image of a car shot in a parking lot. Reads like advertisement

Engine and Fuel Economy Info

Can someone put the engine and fuel economy info that is currently mucking up a paragraph into a chart? Conventional body-on-frame?

From the article: "It is often praised for its subsequently vast cargo space while maintaining the relatively dynamic nature of unibody construction over the conventional body-on-frame."

I don't think body-on-frame is "conventional" any more; it is terribly outmoded and rather rare nowadays. It's the unibody that is the "conventional" way of building cars in this century. (And most of the second half of the last one too, actually.)--CRConrad (talk) 09:58, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually, as you get to the larger SUVs, body-on-frame is still typical - unibody is, of course, common for cars and smaller "crossover" SUVs, indeed that's really what crossover is referring too, basically building an SUV using the same unibody construction of a car. The result is an SUV that is pretty much as comfortable to ride in as a car as opposed to bouncing and rattling around in something closer in comfort to a pickup truck.
