Photo[edit]

Someone should add a photo of Boediono to the info box. Presumably the one included on the Bank Indonesia website (http://www.bi.go.id/NR/rdonlyres/8DEBF69C-9149-45DC-A094-8B779B69C4DE/4837/boediono.jpg) is in the public domain and can be used. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.114.197.72 (talk) 06:22, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The BI website has a copyright message at the bottom. I am still looking for a public domain photo. Davidelit (talk) 06:33, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

pronunciation[edit]

The given pronunciation is not English, Malay, Javanese, Hakka, etc. I would normally assume it's wrong, but it's just odd enough that I wonder if it might be intentional. If it isn't, can we replace it w the Malay or Javanese? kwami (talk) 08:50, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It's an Indonesian name, but I'm not sure I agree that the two 'o's are pronounced differently. I think they are both /o:/. There's also a /j/ glide after the /di:/. There is no article for the IPA for Indonesian, so it's a tricky call. Incidentally there are many major Indonesia articles without pronunciation, so perhaps others have problems too. I'm only familiar enough w Javanese to know this transcription isn't it, not enough to do it myself. (I don't even know how to transcribe the b and d.) Malay's easier, but I doubt the vowels are long. Are you saying it's s.t. like [bu'djono], with three syllables? kwami (talk) 10:59, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's four syllables the way Indonesians pronounce it - I just asked one and counted! More like [bu'di:jono] with the stress on the penultimate syllable. I'm a bit rusty on the IPA myself - I'll see what I can find. Davidelit (talk) 11:19, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ind. phonetics are fairly straightforward, but you said it's stressed on the penult, [budi'jono], but marked the ante-penult, [bu'dijono]. kwami (talk) 11:40, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're right - paste error. Yes, "Boediono" should be fairly straightforward too, but where to find a reference? Or is it OK to improvise given that "b" is always a voiceless stop labial etc etc? After all, asking passing Indonesians is surely WP:OR :-) Davidelit (talk) 15:34, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
People generally aren't too worried about pronunciations, as long as they seem reasonable. The essential thing here is that oe is [u] and the stress is on the 1st o. If anyone challenges it, we can deal with it then. kwami (talk) 22:56, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
