Common name?[edit]

It is stated in the article for Boa constrictor that that is the only extant vertebrate species which has a common name that is the same common name as its scientific binomial. And yet here we are at one of its closest relatives presenting the same situation. No doubt some of the confusion arises because of the reletively recent recognition of this as a separate species. There are a number of vernacular names offered, but no clarity as to which should be considered the main name. Is there a reptile equivalent of the IOC World Bird List that gives preferred English language names for each species? Is there any name other than the binomial acknowledged to be the most common?
