Additional Photos?

Might someone be able to produce an additional photo of this dog? I'd like to see the tail "tightly curled over the back, but not carried on either side" per FCI standards. Graphic examples of what constitutes 'a little white on the feet' would be nice too as would a profile image of the head. Keesiewonder 13:48, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

someone nicely added an adult picture. I have made that the infobox photo and moved the puppy picture down into the appearance section. I feel a better picture is still needed but I could not find a free one easily.Jemmaca (talk) 10:11, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

English name

It was stated that "elkhound" is a mistranslation and that it, despite its name, is not a hound. The Wikipedia article on hound states that "A hound is a type of dog that assists hunters by tracking or chasing the animal being hunted." This is exactly what an elkhound does. It is commonly accepted as not belonging to hounds, despite the somewhat confusing definition of hounds, as you point out. It's not so much as a mistranslation, as a direct one. The norwegian word "hund" means dog, while norwegian doesn't have a seperate word for "hound". So having the name of the breed called "hund" in norwegian suggests it is a hound, which it isn't.

Simply viewing the article you quoted, which has a list of hounds, would indicate that this is so, since none of the Elkhounds are listed there.

Distinct from Grey Norwegian Elkhound

I removed the links breed standards for all kennel clubs other than FCI in the infobox. When I read them they were talking about the Grey version of the dog. some specified that black was not allowed and others just that it must be grey and not too dark.

I also removed the note that mentions it as being 2 breeds. As this article is only about the Black version that was not appropriate for the infobox. Jemmaca (talk) 10:09, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
