Unsupprted claims[edit]

Since the LDS Church does not in anyway track the race of its members, can we really claim that "approximately 5% of Church members have African ancestry". We really have no clue what percentage it is, and I would say in parts of Brazil it is total guessing even by those who actually know who all the members in an area are if they have African ancestry.

Fred Antioni (Tony) Parker III[edit]

Depending on how focused on African-Americaness this article is, we might want to mention Fred Parker, who is the first African-American (emphasis on the American as in US) Area Seventy. At least I am 99% sure he is. This [1] Church News article will convince you Parker is African-American, also the same is true of Ahmad S. Corbitt who is the main regional spokesperson for the Church in greater New York City and a stake president in New Jersey. My best guess is Corbitt's family were African-American Muslims of some sort (possibly at one point part of Nation of Islam) before joining the Church (he was largely raised in the Church) but I have not found any clear indication of that. Another person we might want to add to the list is Abe Mills, who was a member of Jericho Road, he is another person who I think comes from a Muslim background (I want to say I once in the mid-1990s, before Jericho Road, read an article in the Church News about Mills father being a bishop in St. Louis that mentioned the man had been a Muslim before joining the Church, but maybe that was an article on a different Afircan-American bishop in the St. Louis area, my recent searches came up with nill, although I do know that Mills' father was a bishop in St. Louis, and I do know that if his family was not LDS when he was born they joined when he was very little, but his actual first name is Abdallah).John Pack Lambert (talk) 04:07, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

About FRED A. PARKER III - Personal Facebook page [2] Elder Fred A. (Tony) Parker III was named a member of the Sixth Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 31, 2012. Elder Parker began his professional career in special operations for the United States Army in 1978 and later retired from the Army in 2000. Currently, he is Director, Records and Information Management (RIM) for the Atlanta Housing Authority. Elder Parker has served in numerous Church callings including primary teacher, ward and the branch mission leader, elders quorum president, branch president, bishop, stake presidents counselor, and stake president. Fred Antioni Parker III was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 22, 1961. He married Lina O. Malolo in February 1983. They are the parents of five children. Elder and Sister Parker reside in Union City, Georgia.

This profile does not look to have been updated as he is serving as a mission president in Kingston, Jamaica.
