I have expanded this article by adding sections on use of the term "BMP" in industrial wastewater permitting. I think the use of the term in industrial wastewater may precede its use in the burgeoning stormwater management field. At a minimum, the Clean Water Act and EPA publications initially only referred to the industrial BMP context. I have provided references that I could locate.

Additional background on the history of the term "BMP" in water pollution control is welcome. Perhaps it appears in some older (i.e. pre-Clean Water Act) wastewater engineering textbooks? Anyone who can find references, please add them where appropriate.

Since there is not a current article on "Stormwater Management," this BMP article could be expanded to become the major reference on the topic. There are several existing articles on individual BMP types, such as retention basin, but we need an article providing an overview of the entire field. The existing article on stormwater does not address the management topic, and should probably be left as such. Comments? Moreau1 (talk) 01:43, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
