I have inspected the copies of the 1945 Berkeley NT, 1959 Berkeley Version, and Modern Language NT available on Archive.org and compared against my copy of the New Berkeley Version (which does not contain full copyright information, which is why I was looking - to confirm whether it was the revised 1969 version or the original 1959 version). The 1959 version does not include "New" in the title - this was clearly added for the 1969 version, as suggested elsewhere on the internet. It is also suggested that this was renamed as the Modern Language Bible in 1971, however I suspect it may have been published simultaneously under both names. Two prefaces are provided at bibleversion.org, but some typos have been made in copying them out, so I don't know what to trust about them.

Contrary to a previous statement here, I can confirm that the New Berkeley Version revised both the old and new testaments (the new testament revision is described at http://mirrors.unna.org/homepage.mac.com/rmansfield/thislamp/files/20070521_modern_language_bible.html as more extensive). Gen 1:2 in the New Berkeley Version begins "The earth was formless and empty" - c.f. the original "the earth was unformed and chaotic". But at first glance it does seem that the main change is significantly more footnotes.
