I wrote a paragraph on a recent incident involving an interviewer, Ben Brown, and a protester, Jody McIntyre, who had been dragged in the street by police. It is a defining moment in Ben Brown's career that he treated the protester (who suffers from Cerebral Palsy) with little respect and some animosity. It showed a lack of objectivity on the part of the reporter, and even worse was that it was an attack on a person who was not at fault for being abused by the police.

I would like to write a paragraph which pays attention to the interviewers lack of objectivity in reporting. I hope you consider this worthy of posting and perhaps you will be convinced by looking at the interview for yourself.

On December 13, Ben Brown interviewed a protester named Jody McIntyre who suffers from Cerebral Palsy. The interview began with footage of Jody being dragged in the streets by police, and was presumably to follow with questions on the disregard of humanity by police during a protest against the introduction of student fees in the United Kingdom. The focus of the interview became a bias attack on the protester, Jody McIntyre for protesting against the fees. A number of times during the interview, Ben Brown insinuated Jody could throw stones and show aggression towards the police, and implied these actions would justify the violence shown by police. Even after Jody had stated that he was unable to move his own wheel chair, Ben Brown continued with the forceful inquiry of the actions of the protester prior the incident. The interview was ironic as it was an attack on a protester, but was meant to be an interview about an attack on the protester by police.

Not done: Please read WP:OR and WP:NPOV. Most of that is your analysis of the interview, not a factual reporing of what occurred. It's also not neutral. If a reliable source has commented about the interview and analyzed in such a manner, then you can include whatever the reliable secondary source said.

Also, in reference to the second IP, Wikipedia isn't "for the public"--it's a privately run website, which has rules for posting and editing just like any other site. The reason this article is semi-protected is that numerous anonymous editors regularly violated WP:BLP, which is a core policy governing how articles about living people must be written. You are more than welcome to continue to propose additions or changes to the article here on the talk page. Alternatively, you are welcome to register a username, and then after a few days and edits on unprotected articles, you will be able to edit this page. Whether they will or not is not our concern. Our only concern is to provide an accurate encyclopedic summary of what can be verified by reliable sources. Please note, also, that you may not use this (or any other) talk page as a forum to discuss issues outside of the encyclopedia, or as a soapbox for your personal opinions. If you continue to do so, your comments on this page will be reverted. This should be included, according to the guardian ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/dec/15/jody-mcintyre-protester-dragged-from-wheelchair ) the incident received "thousands of complaints" and yet no mention of it here? Wikiditm (talk) 21:14, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Looking back[edit]

It looks pretty clear to me, looking back on this from 6 months perspective, that this issue is far too trivial to have so much coverage in the article. The paragraph is longer than any other section, and includes far to many details. I'm going to cut it down significantly, per WP:UNDUE. Thousands of angry comments seems like a big deal, but not when put into the context of a very long career. Ultimately, it was one interview, and it looks like we have only one secondary source that only covers the issue in part. Qwyrxian (talk) 06:19, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
