"Defeat" for whom?[edit]

The summary says the battle was considered a defeat by the British. It was a battle between the Americans and the Qing Chinese and the Americans won. So the sentence seems illogical. I realize that the war was between the British and the Qing. So had the British already tried to pass the forts and been defeated? I don't know enough to try to revise the entry, but someone knowledgeable should do something to make the entry pass thelogic test. RodArm (talk) 03:51, 11 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

You kids need to stop fighting over whether to put "China" or "Qing dynasty" in the infobox. This edit war is stupid. On the same day the protection expired, it continued. You guys have been fighting longer than the actual battle took place. I've put "Qing China" as a compromise. This issue has also been discussed before at Talk:First Opium War#Name of China.
