Khan's name[edit]

There was no such khan at this time. It was Ahmed Khan who ruled the Great Horde at this time. Please check your sources.

At the same time Ahmed had brother Mamed (just like in the joke Ahmed/Mamed) (Maxmud of Astrakhan), whose name could have been transliterated into Mamad/Mamat, which may be corrupted into Mamak (which is absolutely not a turkic hame).

Yes, it was probably him. I only put the name how it appears in a Moldavian chronicle, and made a footnote with variants of his name. I too looked to see who exactly was this khan, but I couldn`t find anything. So yes, it`s probably Ahmed Khan. Anyway, I didn`t make it up... So, should I put Ahmed Khan instead of Mamay? "Stephen the Great" article must probably mention the battle. `'mikkanarxi 00:29, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Verifiability problem[edit]

The article cites only historical sources. It lloks like someone just translates a text from some historic book without providing reference to it. I seriousl doubt the contributor read Dlugsz and Sarnicki and ... `'mikkanarxi 17:04, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the bottom of the page, there is a section called, surprisingly, "Footnotes and references". There is a link there, if you can read, this one where there are all the sources (in Romanian). For example, since we were talking about the name of the khan (and since somebody removed the footnote about his name), click on this link, press F3 while you`re there, and look for the words "Mamiak" or "Moniak" or "Manyak".... OK. You have read them. Still, this constitutes original research, to write article basing on ancient chronicles. And this case is a perfect confirmation. The fact is that at these times there was a totally different khan in the Horde. And yes, I know how to use google. I have no idea who translated Dlugosz into Romanian and from which langauge, and how maany translation mistakes is in this text. Primary sources are good for quotations, but to have an article about the battle, an expert must read historical docs, sift out bullshit and spelling/transliteration problems, publish it into a reputable source, and only then you must write a wikipedia article. `'mikkanarxi 23:16, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Now v. not[edit]

One note begins "It is now known…" but then runs off into conjecture. Does it perhaps mean to say "It is not known…"? - Jmabel | Talk 22:58, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also "or does a wrong due to him" is quite unclear, including the referent of "him". - Jmabel | Talk 23:00, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
