Why is there a gay, lesbian, or bisexual people link at the bottom here? Just wondering.

I don't think that Diller has been positively quoted as affirming that he is either gay or bisexual, and as such, I don't think that he can be classified as being "out" as either one. The CNN story could be incorrect and does not cite a source, so I don't think that it alone can qualify as proof. The New York magazine article seems to be based on speculation and gossip, not proven fact. There isn't even agreement among those who think that he's gay or bisexual as to which of those he might be, so I certainly don't think you could classify him as out.

Dates don't add (i think): Paramount CEO '72 and says for next 10 years..with associated properties/shows though '84. However, 72+10=82. It then picks up with at Fox in '84. Was there a gap of employ from 82-84? Should it read dozen/12, instead of 10? Should he receive credit for films, '82-'84? I don't know.

Birth place

Anybody have a definitive answer? Most of the webpages I found say San Francisco, at least one says Beverly Hills, and this article lists both. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.112.11.10 (talk) 20:27, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I know his parents owned a delicatessen in San Francisco and later San Rafael - my grandfather worked for them back in the 40s. Mis parents were named Harry and Molly googuse (talk) 20:41, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Yacht

This was added to the article (not by me). I've moved it here for someone to answer...

"Eos is the SECOND largest privately owned sailing yacht in the world after Tom Perkins' Maltese Falcon. The 93m figure you are quoting includes the bowsprit (a spar extending from the bow of the vessel, which is not generally included in an overall length (LOA) figure. The length of Eos excluding the bowsprit is actually 82.60m"

Barry Diller Sexuality mentioned in von Furstenberg interview

Here's an article in The Guardian with Dianne von furstenberg (Diller's wife), with some discussion on his sexuality. There is also a quotation from Andy Warhol commenting on von Furstenberg and Diller's relationship long ago, however it doesn't give a primary source for that. [2]

Here's a relevant paragraph from the article:

In 2001, she married Barry Diller, super-rich media mogul and one-time CEO of Paramount Studios. She was first involved with Diller 27 years ago, a five-year fling which confused people enormously, because Diller was widely presumed to be gay. 'She gives him straightness and he gives her powerfulness,' Andy Warhol wrote of their union at the time. But, following a split and a series of other affairs and other heartbreaks, all of which were played out on an impressively international stage (from Brazil to Paris to the US), von Furstenberg married Diller because: 'He loves me so much, and it was his birthday and I didn't know what to give him. So I said, OK, we will get married. And he's just a wonderful man.' She enjoys being married, she says. 'I didn't think I would. But I do.'

An observation

Although we don't mention or discuss Barry Diller's sexuality at all in the article (which may be appropriate), we do link to tabloid snark about it, without any explanation. (2 of the 3 external links are snarky gossipy commentary about it.) There appear to be at least some reliable sources which tastefully mention the question, and so it is at least arguable that a brief respectful sentence about it is warranted in the article. But at the very least, I should think that we should either cover the topic (with reliable sources) or ignore the topic (if it is deemed to be not important or too fringe - I have not researched the subject enough to form a conclusion about that), or not cover it. It makes very little sense to link to tabloid tittle-tattle without explanation.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 18:53, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Many days having passed without a response to my concern, nor edits of substance about it, I have just removed the tabloidy links for now. Happy to have a discussion about this.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 01:31, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
