Removal of Chop On Sign[edit]

Changing a sign isn't a notable chapter in this controversy. For it to be notable the Braves or a credible source would have to state that the team made this change because of the controversy. The sign had moved at least once before it was finally removed completely. The citation in the article doesn't provide evidence that this is connected to the controversy. Further evidence needs to be presented to make this addition to this article.

Also, it should be noted that the Braves started using "For The A" for marketing weeks before the season started and before this sign was removed. Nemov (talk) 01:53, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this a Good Article?[edit]

I did not read this article before the merge proposal, and now that I have wonder why it exists at all. The content does not go much beyond what is covered in the section Native_American_mascot_controversy#Atlanta_Braves, and does not appear to justify its own article. It certainly is not a GA, being a summary of how the Braves fit into the larger controversy, with references limited to newspaper articles. The main article cites academic journals and the statements of many Native American organizations, civil rights and professional organizations. There are journal articles that refer to the Braves, these being two examples:

  • Miller, Jackson B. (1999). "Indians, Braves, and Redskins: A Performative Struggle for Control of an Image". Quarterly Journal of Speech. 85 (2): 188–202. ISSN 0033-5630.
  • Rose, Christine (2002). "The Tears of Strangers Are Only Water: The Refusal of America to Understand the Mascot Issue.(braves or Cowards? Use of Native American Images and Symbols as Sports Nicknames)". Virginia Sports and Entertainment Law Journal. 1 (2). ISSN 1556-9799.

@Nemov, you appear to have given this a GA rating when you created the talk page. I do not see it listed in the list of good articles, and I do not see a good article nomination anywhere. I'm therefore adjusting its rating; please ping me if there's something we're missing. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 19:10, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@SdkbSorry for the confusion. It's probably just a copy and paste error I made at the time. Thanks! - Nemov (talk) 19:31, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I ran a query and found 85 such miscategorizations; I'll go through and clear them out shortly. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 19:33, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
