Plagiarism[edit]

I have decided to remove the following:

...when a new version was produced under the title Armchair Cinema, effectively a series of short TV movies. In 1976 the Thames series Plays For Britain, although not officially part of the Armchair franchise, was avowedly inspired by Sydney Newman's work, its aim being to reflect social circumstances and conditions in the UK in much the same way as Armchair Theatre had done in the late 50s and early 60s. In 1978 a final version, Armchair Thriller was produced, and this ran for two years until 1980, when the programme ended for good.

The passage appears to have been copied and pasted from Franchising: Webster's Quotations, Facts and Phrases p.78 which is on Google Books here. Some of it can be safely condensed because it is not solely dependant on this source, but the reference to Plays for Britain seems no more relevant than many other series which followed Armchair Theatre, despite the later series being among the credits of Verity Lambert as a producer. Underground (1958)[edit]

The passage on this episode has caused me no end of trouble in trying to develop the article. Because of its place in the chronology, I have had to introduce Newman before his impact on the series can be outlined. Splitting the 'history' section has compounded the problem as 'writers' is surely a natural progression after 'intent' as 'tragedy' (Jones was only 33 at the time of his fatal heart attack) would be an irritating break.

I have chosen to reduce its length for now, though it is important enough not to be removed entirely. An article on the individual episode is probably the only long-term solution, retaining a parenthetical mention in this article, as it appears to meet notability as an event.
