Would any of her novels be considered Asian American?[edit]

Most of them are labeled as Indian, but she's listed as Asian American. Could any of her novels be considered American enough to be cross-listed under Asian American novels? Aristophanes68 (talk) 06:19, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Labeled? Do you mean novels WP:CATegories?
{{infobox book}} "Country" refers to the first edition publisher so her books published in London should be labeled British in the infoboxes of their own articles. (This hour I have so revised The Village by the Sea from "India, United States". I have also added Category: British children's novels which may be inappropriate, although I have not removed "Indian".)
Is she "Asian American" today? In my Cambridge, Mass. experience the term is now used exclusively for people of East Asian descent, who were called Oriental a few decades ago. In Cambridge, UK she would be Asian British, I suppose. --P64 (talk) 23:02, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About the author[edit]

I have cut this from The Village by the Sea --perhaps copied from an edition of that book?

Anita Desai was born on 24 June 1937 in Mussoorie to a German mother(Toni Nime) and Bengali father(D.N.Mazumdar). She spent much of her time in Delhi. She learnt to speak and write German, Bangla, English, Urdu and Hindi. Desai is among the well known Indian writers in English and is at present in the United States, where she is the John E. Burchard Professor of Writing at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Her other novels include Fire on the Mountain (1977), which won the Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize, and Clear Light of Day (1980), In Custody (1984) and Fasting, Feasting (1999), each of which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. In Custody was made into a film by Merchant Ivory productions. Her children's book The Village by the Sea (1982), won the Guardian Children's Fiction Award in the year 1983.

India: A Traveler's Literary Companion (beside vandalism)[edit]

At the foot of Selected works moments ago[1] I reverted both 3-day old deletion of her earliest book and 3-month old insertion of 17,000 bytes. Those seem to be two "vandalisms". (If the long essay is appropriate material it needs to be located elsewhere and handled differently.)

At the same time I deleted the final listing, without a date,

  • India- A Travellers Literary Companion

According to Amazon[2] Anita Desai provided only the foreword for that book --published 2010 so the listing was also out of sequence.

The Indian publisher HarperCollins India does not mention Anita Desai on its webpage for the Literary Companion[3] although she is barely visible on the cover image.
P.S. This note concerns only the first of my two consecutive edits. --P64 (talk) 19:52, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is the lead concise or overly detailed?[edit]

I believe that the lead is concise because it talks about her career and what she is known for within the first sentence. Then, they briefly go over her accolades which provides insight into her successes and is most helpful for a concise lead. ~~~~ Vk2023 (talk) 20:20, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
