Notability[edit]

At least four independent sources discuss Ishmael more than just trivially. I used them for brief summaries but they do establish notability. If the concern is that the article does not demonstrate notability, the "{{cleanup biography}}" template would be more appropo. I will try and flesh out the biography more. The specific sources are the Canada Arts Connect Interview and the reviews of "Black Thorns in the White Cube" in New City Art (this is prior to Ishmael writing an article for that publication) and BITE Magazine, which are cited, and The Pitch (I did not find this source until now, and I will incorporate it into the article). Per WP:BASIC, "If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources may not be sufficient to establish notability." The coverage in these four sources is more than trivial, even though not full stand-alone biographies.

Ishmael also meets the following criteria guidelines:

Criterion 2 of WP:CREATIVE: "The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory, or technique." While she is not the sole originator of black metal theory, her approach and technique is unique. Possibly criterion 3 of the same guideline: "The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series) or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews." "Black Thorn in the White Cube" has been reviewed by at least three publications. I'm not sure how significance is determined, so I'm hesitant to invoke this criterion. There does seem to be enough coverage for that exhibit to be a stand-alone article.

Criterion 1 of WP:ACADEMIC: "The person's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources." Specifically, her work in black metal theory. I concede that the amount of non-trivial coverage of this is arguable. Criterion 8 of WP:ACADEMIC: "The person is or has been the head or chief editor of a major, well-established academic journal in their subject area." - She is the co-editor of the ONLY journal in her subject area. Criterion 9 of WP:ACADEMIC: "The person is in a field of literature (e.g., writer or poet) or the fine arts (e.g., musician, composer, artist), and meets the standards for notability in that art"

Regarding the "advert" claim, what about the information about Ishmael is like advertising? If this is specified I can address it.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 22:12, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
