Bad sourcing[edit]

This appears substantially sourced to tabloids (e.g. Sunday Mirror), and there's even an editor edit-warring in a deprecated source (WP:MAILONSUNDAY). The article needs a thorough clean-out of the questionable sourcing - David Gerard (talk) 17:29, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

MoS was used for a minor fact, the names of the daughters of an invidual. It seems common sense is not so common on wikipedia. WCMemail 17:39, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You used a deprecated source to cite names of living minor persons? - David Gerard (talk) 22:20, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Again for the record, the youngest is now 37, the oldest 40. How are they minor living persons? I can confidently state it seems fact checking isn't your string point. WCMemail 15:25, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Irrelevant?[edit]

I noticed an editor removed his origin from the lede, without giving a reason. Since, he is principally known for the fact he was born in the Falklands and defected to Argentina after the Falklands War, I restored the text with a note that the text had been removed without a clear summary as to why. Per WP:BRD I would have expected that this would be raised in talk but instead it was removed again with the comment [1] irrelevant for lead. I am rather surprised by the assertion that it is "irrelevant" since that is in fact what he is principally known for. Bringing it here for comment by uninvolved editors. Per MOS:LEADSENTENCE, the first sentence should tell the nonspecialist reader what or who the subject is, and often when or where..
The primary reason why Betts is notable is the fact that he was a Falkland Islander who defected to Argentina. That is who the subject was. You check this version, for example, and this vital context is lost. On the other hand, that version keeps prominent mention of the fact that he was an air-traffic controller, which is largely irrelevant to his notability. Kahastok talk 20:26, 11 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
