Pronunciation[edit]

How is the name pronounced? (I'm mainly concerned about the "Lhuillier" part :-) --Jonas kork 08:43, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think something like loo-lee-ay or loo-leeyay would be a reasonable anglicised attempt, although of course how you read that depends on your own idiolect. A broad IPA transcription would be less ambiguous, perhaps someone more proficient could offer one. --cjllw ʘ TALK 01:37, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That means that the "h" and the first "i" do not alter the pronunciation of the surrounding letters? --Jonas kork 10:44, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
the "h" would be silent, the name derives from French huile, "oil". The vowel sounds would (in native French or Spanish pronunciation) not be quite the same as in English- I guess it would depend on what language you're used to ;-) --cjllw ʘ TALK 08:25, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
