Discussion about the term[edit]

see Talk:Strategic bombing#Redirects from "Air raid" changed to disambiguation page and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history#air raid or airstrike --Philip Baird Shearer (talk) 14:46, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just changed a lot of links to this disamg page, I didn't think of strategic bombing and it wasn't on this page until after. I'm thinking of the easiest way to fix it. PirateArgh!!1! 15:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To me, "air raid" is a general term that includes airstrike. Binksternet (talk) 17:23, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Style[edit]

Also, for style and usability, I'd planning on changing the page so that the first section be prominent and show Air Strike and Strategic Bombing, followed by defense, then specific example and then miscellaneous stuff. PirateArgh!!1! 16:59, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Raid vs Attack[edit]

The words raid and attack have the same meaning, or do they have some differences? 96.229.193.68 (talk) 02:47, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A "raid" is very often a surprise to the enemy; an attack may be expected and even watched as it develops. The kind of attack that takes a long time to happen would never be called a raid. Sometimes a raid is small-scale in terms of numbers of attackers and in terms of distance from base. An "attack" can be these things but can also be large-scale and can range far from home for long periods, as in a campaign or series of battles. A strategic campaign would never be called a raid, but could be spoken of as an attack. Binksternet (talk) 03:01, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Because I often see the word air attack and air raid, yet I'm still uncertain about whether they're same or not. Also, if it goes with border, most of the time people use border raid, I hadn't seen anyone use border attack. 96.229.193.68 (talk) 05:44, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fiction[edit]

Deletions[edit]

Some ignorant jackass has been erasing additional information that I have been adding to this article. Shame on you! 98.67.111.148 (talk) 04:26, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shame on me? Well, alrighty then. All I want is to maintain the disambiguation character of this page, and not have it host uncited additions, and not have it display too many links, per WP:MOSDAB guidelines. Binksternet (talk) 04:33, 24 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Disambiguation?!? This is not a disambiguation page. Whoever links "air raid", clearly has one thing in mind - the journey of a group of aircraft that ends in dropping some explosives on someone's head. There is no other meaning of that phrase in English language. The "Air Raid (video game)" is just an example of a video game that deals with such aircraft's activity, so we are listing it here, but there is little to disambiguate, really. --Kubanczyk (talk) 11:42, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There was also a short lived tag team in World Championship Wrestling that consisted of AJ Styles and Air Paris though they don't have a Wikipedia page for their tag team but if they did get one then their tag team page would fall under Air Raid (wrestling). But the most common "air raid" is the journey of a group of aircraft that ends in dropping some explosives on someone's head. - 2A02:C7D:C28:4B00:BCDE:F903:F55C:6607 (talk) 20:31, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
