Speedy Deletion[edit]

Ah Louis was already linked to as a notable person from the San Luis Obispo, California article. Normally, I delete entries from city articles about "notable" residents when they don't have their own article, however having lived in San Luis Obispo for several years previously I realized that Ah Louis is actually a notable historical figure in San Luis Obispo County, so instead of reducing the San Luis Obispo article, I saw the need to improve Wikipedia by providing an article to help educate anyone who isn't familiar with Ah Louis.

For reference, there are 4,370 articles on "Ah Louis" in Google. I will be taking the news hour or so to extract the valuable bits from these sources so this Wikipedia biographic entry is accurate and rich. XSG 01:15, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, reviewing the requirements for Speedy Deletion, this article does not qualify. If you would like to pursue the deletion of this article, please list the article on Articles for Deletion instead. XSG 01:24, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could the article be renamed to Ah Louis? The page states that this name is more well-known, also, the whole article refers to him as Ah Louis, which is inconsistent with the title. PeaceNT 06:43, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Immigration and Naturalization Service case file for Ah Louis (a.k.a. Wong On, Wong Ah Louis) is available at the National Archives-Pacific Region, 1000 Commodore Drive, San Bruno, CA 94066. The file number is 33473/5-2 and is part of Record Group 85. Appointments to view this record can be made by calling 650-238-3501 or by writing to sanbruno.archives@nara.gov. The immigration case file provides biographical details of his very long life that I have not seen elsewhere. I very much agree that Ah Louis was both a notable Chinese American and an important figure in San Louis Obispo history. He certainly deserves his own article.
