My Webster's Biographical Dictionary has her dates as 1855-1950. BillFlis 02:12, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I amended the dates to include 1858. The source, Redressing the Balance, says info on her is 'sketchy' and includes both dates. I didn't look very deeply, but it seems other sources merely reiterate the 1855 birth date without referring to the uncertainty. Of course, a source which says one or the other is wrong would resolve this. cygnis insignis 11:39, 23 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In Agnes Repplier: Lady of Letters by George Stewart Stokes (who interviewed Repplier), "On November 4, 1851, Mrs. Repplier gave birth to her first child, Mary. ... Four years later, on April 1, 1855, a second daughter was born, duly christened "Agnes" ... Four more years went by, and Mrs. Repplier bore another child. This time it was a boy." Also, "the role of rebel was a dangerous one in a convent school in the late 1860's, especially when one was only fourteen. And so it happened that in July 1869, ... Agnes was dismissed." Agnes and Elizabeth Robins Pennell were best friends, both attending the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Torresdale, PA. Pennell was also born in 1855. Further, census records for 1870, 1880, 1910, 1940 all show ca. 1855/56 estimates based on age at time of census. One census record (1920) seems to be in err, and may be a source of confusion. It states that older sister Mary was then 66, Agnes 62, and younger brother Louis 68 at the time (in that order). Two passport applications list 1855 as birth year, as does her death certificate (aged 95 at death in 1950) and entry in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church records for the family vault (vault no. 7; aged 95 at death on 15 Dec 1950).
