Gaelic name[edit]

Could someone please confirm whether or not the Gaelic name appears on the station's signage? If not, it shouldn't appear in the article's infobox. Signalhead (talk) 21:46, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm the user who put the Gaelic name there. I am unable to confirm if it is written there, however i am aware of stations in glasgow suburbs with gaelic signage that are not shown on wikipedia, and stations without gaelic signage that state it here. I wasn't sure if it only referred to the current signage or to the station itself.
Dún Laoghaire Mallin is the official and actual name of the station but signage shows simply Dún Laoghaire instead of Dún Laoghaire Mallin and Dún Laoghaire Í Mheallain
Culham station's signage shows Culham for Culham Science Centre.
Maidenhead shows Maidenhead for the Marlow line.
Abbey Wood shows Abbey Wood for Thamesmead.
Dublin Tara Street shows simply Tara Street
Belfast City Hospital has the Belfast missing
Morar has no English signage whatsoever, simply advertising Mòrar instead.
What is the criteria for the naming? Once somebody has explained or discussed for me i can avoid the mistake in the future. I've also done the same for Aberdeen. I will cease for the time being until somebody has explained.Halowithhorns89 (talk) 16:11, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just checked, the Fort William signage has no Gaelic, but the Dalmuir and Partick does. Now the numbers of Gaelic speakers in Fort William warrant a Gaelic sign as much as Lisvane is Cardiff does, however Dalmuir and Partick have comparitively low numbers of speakers compared to the west coast. I added the Scottish Gaelic due to it's status as an official language of Scotland. Could i have people's views on this?Halowithhorns89 (talk) 16:22, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All West Highland Line stations (including Fort William and Morar) have both English and Gaelic names on their signs. The infoboxes on their articles reflect this.
I'm going to remove the Gaelic name from the Aberdour station article on the basis that I don't believe it appears on the station signs. Anyone who wants to know the Gaelic name for Aberdour can refer to the article about the town. Signalhead (talk) 18:09, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
