Fast death notice[edit]

His death was announced on the BBC website *maybe* 30 seconds before this article was edited. People are fast! --Charlene 06:49, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About two weeks before in a German library next to a young teacher from Turkey; she was preparing a class with his "C'est quoi la mort": so after a very long talk we mentioned that into Wiki. As far as I understood - please do correct everything - he said: God/heaven after dead is all the good things you did. And to be dead in the middle of life happens so often, when we miss to support others.Sieb 16:09, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"In 1928, aged 16, further to a love God flasher..."?[edit]

What is a love God flasher? Someone who exposes himself before Aphrodite? Andrew Levine 17:48, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

it's the translation from the french article : "coup de foudre avec Dieu", we could also say "love at first sight with God" ...Paris75000 17:51, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure you can really call "love God flasher" a "translation." Translations are comprehensible. I'll take a look at the French article later and do a rewrite on the English article so it isn't a total joke. Andrew Levine 18:01, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anglicization[edit]

I have started to anglicize the article (grammar, spelling, idiom). I've done a very minor first run, while referring to the article on French Wikipedia and utilizing my vast knowledge gained from Le Français partout. Anyone else wants to take a go, please do. --SigPig |SEND - OVER 09:28, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I will add my two centimes' worth to Anglicize this article also. FWIW. Jess (talk) 04:49, 13 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of Radio Luxembourg speech and controversy section[edit]

Hello, all,

I've extended the translation of the Radio Luxembourg speech (from the French article). I know a published professional translation is preferred, but I don't have one. I've translated it fairly directly, and semi-Anglicized the place names.

There is now only sentence quoted in the French article and not in the English; "Devant l'horreur, les cités d'urgence, ce n'est même plus assez urgent!" I'm not certain of how to translate it. Help, even just a paraphrase in French, would be welcome.

The references need some major clean-up. I've added a couple from the CBC/BBC, because they are generally very accurate. Many of the other refrences are from less reputable sources and conflict with one another, and I'm often not sure of the facts. The French article says that the book mentioned ("Mon Dieu.. Pourquoi?") was disavowed by Abbé Pierre, but I couldn't find a reference for it.

The account of the more controversial aspects of Abbé Pierre's life needs editing by someone who can sort through the mess of journalistic inaccuracy. This also applies to the extensive French article. Prehaps a journalism class project?

Devant l'horreur, les cités d'urgence, ce n'est même plus assez urgent!: "Before the horror, even the emergency housing projects can not satisfy the real emergency situation"? far from perfect, but a start? Which Le Monde article said that "Mon Dieu... Pourquoi?" was disavowed? Put this ref then, shouldn't we? On a global way, I've reviewed bits of French & international press, I can't see so much "journalistic inaccuracies" you are talking about, and, if you see some, they probably are more about opposing value judgments (everyone liked the Abbé Pierre in France, but obviously not for the same reasons, and could be bitter opponents between themselves). Hi Taz, I'll have a closer look at this article as soon as I have some time. My first comment: mon dieu !Giordaano 07:13, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

? Why was that shortened? school book...[edit]

"Many of his publications are translated; except, par example, his book for children (at least over ten years), title: "Cést quoi la mort" - concerning a lot about life - suits for French lessons (partly very much in the style of le petit prince de Saint Exupéry)." Could be interesting for other teachers too... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.175.98.5 (talk) 16:15, 9 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Topline summary[edit]

I suggest being bold and editing the following line:

"He was one of the most popular figures in France, but had his name removed from such polls after some time.[2]"

name="top50personnalites">Le top 50 des personnalités, 12/06, sondage IFOP pour Le Journal du Dimanche p.12 et suivantes

The cited link is dead, however, above and beyond that I have not been able to verify that his name had been "removed" from any such poll. I will amend this line soon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.32.219.13 (talk) 16:34, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
