Number of Voices[edit]

The article notes that "The play was originally written as a monlougue between the two sides of the characters personality, but has since been divided into three parts."

There is no mention in the text concerning the number of characters in the piece. Thus the number of cast members changes with each production. The original English production had three actors. A celebrated French production starring Isabelle Huppert employed only two. A Chicago production had six actors, and an upcoming Orange County production will make it a one-woman show.

"The title of the play refers to the exact time of night around which suffering people report feeling very clear and cold whilst - for those outside - they appear to be suffering the most intense psychosis." Is this true? As far as I can remember, it was only Kane herself who felt this lucidity, not just bipolar sufferers in general. I could be wrong, though. I just added a citation for the origin of the title of the play, and then read your comment here, which the citation doesn't cover at all! The play's title is based, as you say, on the time she experienced this phenomenon; I don't think it's true to say that all suffers across the nation (I assume it's time-zone specific) get it at the same moment. What we need here is to say something along the lines of this is the exact time she felt what many report feeling... but then we'd need a citation to say that these reports are made, which I do not have. Hello, I've only really got into Kane and have read most her plays with 4.48 Psychosis being by far the best play I've ever seen. It really changed things for me. I was just wondering exactly what form of theatre the play falls under. I know it is very avant-garde so I thought it might be Experimental Theatre but I'm not sure. This play will be produced in Israel, at the Haifa theater in February 2015, and at The Studio Theatre, Sheffield in March 2015.
