Already an octet by October 1973[edit]

I've made one small change: it would seem that the piece had become an octet already by the time of the Donaueschingen performance in October 1973. I've just come across a recording of that performance online at: https://archive.org/details/AM_1973_10_21 It's preceded by an interview with Boulez, who speaks of revising it between the New York and Donaueschingen performances. It is described as the 'world premiere of the third version'. The ensemble is made up of eight BBC Symphony Orchestra principals: David Butt, flute; Colin Bradbury, clarinet; John Wilbraham, trumpet; Béla Dékany, violin; John Coulling, viola; Alan Dalziel, cello; Sidonie Goossens, harp; James Holland, vibraphone. It's a really interesting recording in quite good sound. Pre-echoes of Repons and Dialogue de l'ombre double, as well as of the ultimate version of explosante.
