Robert Brieger (born 21 November 1956) is a General of the Austrian Armed Forces and the current Chairman of the European Union Military Committee (CEUMC). Brieger was previously the Chief of its General Staff.[1][2] On 19 May 2021, Brieger was selected as the next CEUMC, and selected to take office on 1 June 2022.[3] He took office 16 May 2022.[4] In 2024 Der Standard reported that, in response to a false post claiming that German corpses had been dug up at the Rheinwiesenlager and "passed off as Jewish corpses in order to manipulate the number of victims of the Holocaust", Brieger wrote "[a]bove all, it is a concealed chapter in the history of the victors".[5][6]
