The Report of the Surplus People Project is the most comprehensive record of the impacts of the South African apartheid government's policy of forced removals of black people to Bantustans.[1]

It was created in 1979 and worked throughout the 1980s to publicize the inhumanity of forced removals and neglect of Bantusans.
The Report[edit]
Between 1980 and 1981, dozens of volunteer collectively interviewed thousands of people living in Bantustans across South Africa. They focused on recording the experiences of people who had been resettled and those who were under the threat of resettlement. The surverys had a wide geographic coverage, across South Africa. The final report was published in five volumes.

Forced removals in South Africa Vol 2: The Eastern Cape
Forced removals in South Africa Vol 3: The Western and Northern Cape and Orange Free State
