Steven Schneider is an American film producer best known for his work in the horror genre. He has been involved in several successful film franchises, including the Paranormal Activity series, the Insidious franchise, and the films Split (2016), Glass (2019), and Knock at the Cabin (2023).

Career Highlights[edit]

Paranormal Activity and Insidious[edit]

Schneider gained prominence through his involvement in the Paranormal Activity film series. As part of the production team, he achieved significant success, particularly with the horror film Insidious, which grossed over $50 million worldwide^[1]. Other films that credit Schneider as a producer include The Lords of Salem^[2] and Knock at the Cabin^[3].

American film producer Jason Blum credits Steven Schneider as the person who identified Paranormal Activity and brought the project to his attention^[4].

Production Deals and Independent Ventures[edit]

Over the past decade, Schneider has focused on strategic production deals. In 2012, he partnered with co-producer Adi Shankar to sign a multi-year agreement with multinational entertainment company Entertainment One.^[5] Additionally, Schneider founded the independent production company Spooky Pictures alongside producer Roy Lee.^[6]

Schneider later signed a multi-film production deal with Indian company Balaji Motion Pictures and genre label Dark Hell, focusing on Hindi-language thriller and horror projects.^[7]

Authorship and Film Psychoanalysis[edit]

Beyond producing, Schneider is a published author specializing in horror cinema and film psychoanalysis. He has written over twenty books, covering topics such as the history of cinema, Hollywood stars, directors, and philosophical reflections on cinematic horror. Notable titles include Fear Without Frontiers: Horror Cinema Across the Globe and Horror Film and Psychoanalysis: Freud’s Worst Nightmare^[8].

Upcoming Projects[edit]

Schneider continues to contribute to the film industry. He is credited as a producer on the upcoming motion picture "Ick" from Interstellar Entertainment^[9]. Schneider is also attached to produce the psychological thriller "My One And Only" from Film Bridge International^[10].

In June 2023, it was announced that Schneider is collaborating with Malkier and Sinister Studios. Their joint efforts will yield a slate of films spanning horror, animation, and thriller genres. Notable projects include the music-driven film “Janus”, co-produced alongside Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, and the period horror piece “The Worthless Remains”, where Schneider partners with Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee3^[11].
