J. Edgar Murdock (1894 – ????) was a judge of the United States Tax Court from 1926 to 1968.

Born in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.[1]

Attended schools in Greensburg; Princeton University, Litt. B., 1916; University of Pittsburgh, LL. B. (cum laude), 1921; admitted to bar of Pennsylvania, 1920; United States military service, 1917 to 1919; commissioned first lieutenant, Infantry, 1917; captain, 1918; overseas service, 1918 to 1919; Silver Star citation; appointed second assistant district attorney, Westmoreland County, Pa., 1922 and first assistant district attorney, 1925; original appointment to the United States Board of Tax Appeals (now the Tax Court), June 9, 1926; reappointed for two succeeding terms June 2, 1932, and June 2, 1944; present term expires June 2, 1956; served as chairman and presiding judge, 1941—45; chief judge since July 1, 1955; member, Order of the Coif, American Bar Association, Princeton Club. Chevy Chase Club, Rolling Rock Club; president of the board, Children's Hospital, Washington, D. C.[1]

He married Sarah Lynch, with whom he had a son, John Edgar Jr., and two daughters, Sarah Martha and Elizabeth.[1]
