- User:Theroadislong he has an entry in the African American Artists source. He composed several songs and performs on a historic early recording of a notable song. So he's received substantial coverage and produced significant works. His artworks are also in major collections as is noted. FloridaArmy (talk) 11:29, 20 August 2022 (UTC)

Eugene Alexander Burkes (1880 - 1951) was an artist and musician in the United States.
He was born in Virginia and both his parents had been enslaved. He lived in Newark, New Jersey. He was referred to as a virtuoso on piano.[1] He studied at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts.[2] He taught music.[3]
His painting "The Slave Mother" was presented to the Oakland Municipal Art Gallery for its permanent collection by the Far-Western Interracial Committee.[4] He composed the theme song for the Unity Club of Boston.[5]
He played piano on a Southland Jubilee Singers recording of "My Lord's Gonna Move This Wicked Race".[6]
He died in 1951.[7]
