Arshdeep Singh Brar, also known as "Robin Brar Bhagsar", is a former national president of the Student Organization of India (SOI). He held this designation from April 2021 to February 2024.
Early Life[edit]
Arshdeep Singh Brar was born on January 12, 1986, in the village of Bhagsar, District Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab, India. He completed his schooling at National Public School in Sri Muktsar Sahib and pursued his graduation at D.A.V College, Chandigarh. He later continued his education at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Career[edit]
Brar began his political career in 2005 by joining the Student Organization Punjab University (SOPU). In 2006, he was elected as the President of SOPU at D.A.V College, Chandigarh, leading them to victory in college elections.
In 2011-2012, Brar became the President of SOPU at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Under his dynamic leadership, SOPU achieved a historic victory with a margin of 1001 votes. He was subsequently appointed as the Chairman of SOPU in 2012-2013, guiding them to another triumph in the PUCSC election with a margin of 533 votes.
Brar joined the Student Organization of India (SOI), the student wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal, in 2014. He served as the election in-charge for PUCSC elections in 2014-2015, during which SOI faced a narrow defeat by 77 votes, marking a significant event in the party's history.
President SOI, Malwa zone-1[edit]
In 2015, Brar was appointed as the president of SOI for Malwa zone-1, which comprises 6 districts in the Malwa region of Punjab. He successfully orchestrated a large-scale rally at Sri Muktsar Sahib for SOI, attracting over 5,000 attendees.
Brar was re-elected to this position in 2019. During his tenure, he organized the monumental 'Sadda Haq' rally in Bathinda for SOI, drawing over 10,000 participants.
National President, SOI[edit]
In April 2021, Brar was appointed as the national president of SOI, a position he held until 2024. During his presidency, he expanded the presence of SOI by establishing units across multiple colleges and zones.
Additionally, Brar was designated as a star campaigner for the Shiromani Akali Dal, leading rallies in various constituencies across Punjab for the 2022 assembly elections.
He was also appointed as a Member of the Jhunda Committee, tasked with analyzing the party's defeat in the 2022 assembly elections and strategizing for future success.
Personal Life[edit]
Arshdeep Singh Brar was born into a respected Jat Sikh community, Sub-caste Brar, in Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab. He is the youngest child of S. Harmander Singh Brar and Sdn. Harsangeet Kaur Brar and has two elder sisters. Brar is married and resides in his village, Bhagsar.
