From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abraham Solomon (1798 — 19 May 1884) was a prominent merchant and an early Jewish settler in Singapore.

Early life[edit]

Solomon was born in Baghdad in 1798. He fled to Calcutta in order to escape from Ottoman rule, and remained there for five years before he left for Singapore in 1836.[1]

Career[edit]

Solomon's first residence in Singapore, which also served as his trading office, was a two-storey brick building located in the middle of Boat Quay.[1]

He later lost most of his fortune to opium speculation.[1]
