Why is this category called Wellesley College alumni? Shouldn't it be called Wellesley College alumnae? Wellesley refers to its graduates as alumnae. Are there a significant number of Wellesley graduates who are male? Dbackeberg 15:49, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I support I guess?Runescape is an example,it is of british origin so the arcticle needs to be in british english(unless translated to a different language(NOT ENGLISH).--203.120.68.72 17:03, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

created a thread on candidates for deletion[edit]

I started a thread under Wikipedia:Categories for deletion to remove this category and set it as a redirect to Category:Wellesley College alumnae. I started moving the articles to the new category manually, until I discovered there's a better way to try to gain consensus for this sort of thing.

The battle for proper English (and Latin)[edit]

This category is now called Category:Wellesley_College_alumni. This decision was by no means unanimous. In short, this category is named Category:Wellesley_College_alumni because of three users.

Those associated with Wellesley College know the preferred term of alumnae is to refer to themselves as alumnae. When the category for former attendees of Wellesley was created, it was named Category:Wellesley College alumnae. Starting October 3, 2006, there was a brief discussion Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_October_3#Category:Wellesley_College_alumnae among just three users on Wikipedia:Categories for deletion and it was decided the category would be renamed to Category:Wellesley_College_alumni. After I couldn't find the category when working on Marguerite S. Church, I proposed reversing the change, and restoring the category to its original name. There was a discussion on this topic Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_October_17#Category:_Wellesley_College_alumni and the result of the discussion was a draw. The naming of the category as alumni stands, but it's not clear for how long. People who would like to revisit this should first assemble a large number of enlightened users who are familiar with webpages like the Wellesley College alumnae site and then resubmit this discussion to Wikipedia:Categories for discussion. CFD take 3[edit]

This is obviously going to keep coming up until it is fixed. So just change it already. 199.125.109.15 23:31, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To head off any plans at renaming, I'm a Wellesley College alumnus and think the category name is fine as it is. On a previous CFD, I noticed the comment "Literally, calling graduates of Wellesley "alumni" is saying that at least one of them is a man, and this is an insult" from User:Dbackeberg -- well, I'm a man and a graduate of Wellesley, and I don't think it insults other Wellesley graduates to acknowledge that I exist.
