Im going to recommend this category page be put forward for deletion in 72 hours. This is because it is a contradiction in itself. It is against fairuse image policy to redraw an image at a higher resolution than it was originally provided at. Making an image into a scalable vector format is obviously strictly in breach of this. It is especially true of logos of which about 60-90% of the following are, in one form or another. I believe this category has come about from slightly over enthusiastic tagging of images with SVG flags. I have just had to clean out the main category of 33 out of a total of 209 files because they are logos which would breach copyright if made into SVG! Thats almost 15% of the category which would breach copyright laws, this category is even worse. We need to be precisely careful with logo images as we certainly don't want the foundation to get in legal trouble. I will seek consensus on the matter over the next few days, if there is no reply or if consensus favours category detaging and page deletion then i shall go ahead with it via AfD and use AWB to detag pages. Discussion on another page is ongoing at this time. The problem with copyright laws with regards to this sort of thing is that they are very clear in some areas and very unclear in others, such as what exactly constitutes a low resolution, for example 4 years ago 300 x 300 was pretty big back when most PC's displayed 640x480 graphics, now its tiny, for example my laptop is using 1440 x 900, only just under twice as large a resoltuion. Until such a time (if it ever happens) that we are clear on copyright it is probably best that this remain, as we may be legitimately able to redraw logos etc. as SVGs. Can I vectorize a logo or image myself and use it on corresponding article. For example, I vectorized this file and used its vector version in corresponding article. Is it okay? I mean can I vectorize any non-free logo/image and use it on Wikipedia? If there is any problem, I'll stop vectorizing raster images because this sentence is worrying me: "Please do not re-draw or auto-trace official logos, but instead seek out vector versions from official sources to be converted to SVG." at this page. --Asadwarraich (talk) 09:24, 22 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
