Why[edit]

southeast asia is one of THE great biodiversity "hotspots" on the planet. out of any given category of asian flora and fauna, this particular biogeographical area (partly because of island geography, and partly because of its tropical latitude, surely) will hold a sizable scoop of the continent's unique organisms. plus, this category helps keeps us from cluttering articles with too-similar categories down at the bottom of the page. (imo it beats saying, e.g., [[Category:Fauna of Thailand]], [[Category:Fauna of Burma]], and [[Category:Mammals of Asia]]. here, the former two cats are of equivalent "rank" to [[Category:Mammals of Southeast Asia]], and we get the latter as a useful highlight of the distinctiveness of the region.) feel free to congratulate, clarify, criticize, or condemn, just as long as you make a clear argument, please and thank you! - Μετανοιδ (talk, email) 11:51, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
