Is a former country one that no longer exists at all, or one that no longer exists in the same form? Some of these have inheritors (e.g. Aksum) that have continued the country with a different name, while others (e.g. Fulani Empire) have ceased to exist altogether. Which of the two (or is it both?) is this category supposed to encompass?

Someone please join all of Gold Coast's articles in one page. They are separated into Portuguese Gold Coast, British Gold Coast... Putting them into one article will make Gold Coast's history easier to access.
