Proposed rename[edit]

I think 'Corporate activism' is more appropriate. Calling mere watch groups 'anti-corporate' is not quite accurate. Yeago 03:15, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-corporate activism is a specific (and very active) branch of activism. If there are articles in this category that don't fit that moniker, please recategorize them to something more appropriate. —GrantNeufeld 12:27, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What about renaming to Category:Anti-company activism? Category:Corporations was deleted for good on May 2 at CFD, and this category deals with activism against all types of companies, not just corporations. Kurieeto 14:35, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are many anti-corporate activists who are not anti-company. (Some work to actively promote local independent businesses.) The term "corporation" as used by anti-corporate activists is not intended to imply all incorporated businesses or organizations (which can lead to some confusion by those not connected to activist circles). Anti-corporate activism generally refers to large corporations, typically multi-nationals or trans-nationals. Anti-corporate activists work against both specific corporations (such as Monsanto, big tobacco companies, Wal-Mart, …) as well as working against the laws which have grown over the past couple centuries to grant corporations overarching powers and freedom from responsibility for the consequences their actions.

Again, "anti-corporate activism" is a very specific and distinct branch of activism that is well known (at least by activists) by that name. The category name is entirely appropriate as it stands.

Also again, if there are articles in the category that you don't think should be here, please recategorize them - but please do not change the category itself. Thanks. —GrantNeufeld 16:48, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Activist Artists[edit]

If 'Fugazi' gets an entry on this page, then what about 'Rage Against the Machine' or 'Chumbawamba'?

Maybe the whole 'Subversive Artists' list needs to be considered? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Subversive_artists (And maybe that needs to be revised and expanded, for that matter.
