Untitled[edit]

There is something wrong with this category. A lot of entries with the anthropologist stub tag are appearing in the scientist stub category and not here. --Etacar11 19:44, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Name alphabetization[edit]

Does anyone know why the names in this category appear alphabetized by first name, whereas the names in Category:Anthropologists are alphabetized by last name? I guess it has something to do with these names being recognized as article titles, rather than as names, but it seems like there should be a way to fix this so that the lists are consistent. romarin [talk ] 03:50, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First, note that when talking about categories you have to put a : in front of the category name (e.g. [[:Category:Anthropologists]]) otherwise you will get a category inclusion rather than a link!
Second, in order for the sorting order to use a surname, this must be explicitly specified at the moment of category inclusion using "|". For example, [[:Category:Anthropologists|Levi-Strauss, Claude]].
Since the stub inclusion happens automatically as part of the stub template (like all stubs) the stubs are alphabetized by firstname and not last.
To change this you would either need software that "recognizes" names (dangerous and unreliable) or would need to specify the surname in the template call, which seems like a lot of work for sorting stubs! --Saforrest 20:28, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that, I completely forgot. Thanks for fixing though. And thanks for the information. It makes sense, and doesn't seem worth it to fix, so I guess we'll just have to leave it at that. romarin [talk ] 22:42, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
