Standard[edit]

These are totally standard categories, and having them out in the future means that they are created in the standard way. I don't think this is a bad thing. Cleduc 21:55, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The category is redundant to Category:Upcoming films, and serves as a magnet for crystal-ballery. I could understand this category popping up in mid-2008 when we have lots of films that would justify a breakout category, but we don't necessarily know that anything that might go in here would even come out in 2009. What will happen to Category:2010 films (if I've read the code right) is that it remains salted until 2009, when it automagically throws up a CSD template so it can be made ready for use. AIUI, the "salted" categories are automatically depopulated by bot. Not sure what you mean when you say these are "standard categories" though. Particularly as there is a tense disagreement (noun past-tense time-in-future). Chris cheese whine 22:05, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Articles have to be created in order to be categorized, so I hardly consider this category a "gateway drug" to clairvoyance. When I say they are "standard categories" I mean that there is one for every year. If you leave Category:2009 films alone it won't do any harm. The benefit of leaving it alone is that it is then created with the proper templates, navigation, etc., and will eventually be filled with films that are scheduled for production. And no, I don't see a problem with that -- Windows Vista had an article for years before it came out, and Indiana Jones 4 is scheduled for release in 2008. And yet somehow the world hasn't come screeching to a bloody halt. Properly sourced articles can deal with scheduled or forecasted events, as long as they aren't original research. Also, many categories have overlap, as Category:Upcoming films contains films in Category:2008 films as well as many others (until recently, Category:2007 films. Overlap does not equal redundancy. Cleduc 03:41, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Country of origin?[edit]

Any way we can get a subcategory or something noting the county of orgin. Having to pick through Canadian, Indian and UK films to find American films is bothersome.
