August 2020[edit]

  1. Marty Phillips nominated at AfD; notified Rlvaughn (talk · contribs) 03:14, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Does not appear to meet WP:NSINGER. I take it criterion 1—[h]as been the subject of multiple, non-trivial, published works appearing in sources that are reliable, not self-published, and are independent of the musician or ensemble itself—is the only relevant criterion here. The best I could find for coverage was this, which is a history of a single church in South Carolina (and may not even be about him). The lone reference in the article does exist, but there is only a passing mention of Phillips in it. As for "What a Meeting in the Air", his best-known tune, there's this, which doesn't look like enough to me. I can't think of a good redirect or merge target, nor can I verify the claim that he was honored at the Old Fashioned Gospel Singing and Musical Convention in 1991. (And I doubt that would confer notability even if it were true.) Notability tagged since 2014.
  2. Tavara nominated at AfD; notified Macukali (talk · contribs) 06:11, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Quite simply: I don't think this is real (and so, a fortiori, fails WP:GNG). I would call it a hoax but there is a single source to what appears to be an RS, but it's in Turkish and only in "snippet" view so I don't know what it says. I tried searching both "davara" and "tavara" with no luck. This initially looked promising but I'm pretty sure it's unrelated and was picked up by Wikipedia-scraping software or an unscrupulous archivist. I would have prodded this if not for the one source.
  3. Marty Riskin nominated at AfD; notified Morandimus (talk · contribs) 16:03, 11 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: A non-notable cartoonist for Massachusetts newspapers. Best I could do by way of WP:SIGCOV was this trivial mention in a college textbook and this local history of Lake Quannapowitt and Wakefield, Massachusetts. Was anthologized in a couple of books of "year's best cartoons" but I don't think that's enough to meet WP:NARTIST or WP:NAUTHOR. Article used to claim he won something called the "Clayton Kirk Award for Political Satire" until I looked that up and realized it was fake. Notability tagged since March 2009.
  4. Native Energy nominated at RfD; Target: Intertribal Council on Utility Policy (notified) 00:15, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: I just created this redirect by moving the page to Intertribal Council on Utility Policy because that's what the article was about. Native Energy is an independent organization affiliated with the Intertribal Council, but they are distinct organizations. For that reason, I suggest deleting the redirect as misleading.
  5. Barkham Burroughs' Encyclopaedia nominated at AfD; notified Novonium (talk · contribs) 04:59, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: I really wish this were notable, but I don't think it is. There's this (name drop), this (another name drop), and a single article in the Hartford Courant from 1984 called "Dusting Off Encyclopedia After 95 Years", which is a nice story about its republication in the '80s but doesn't get it to pass WP:NBOOK on its own. Just don't think there's the coverage here (although I don't have access to that many historical newspapers, which is where I'd expect the coverage to be if it does exist). All the citations are to GoodReads. Notability tagged since 2013.
  6. Granite Horizon nominated at AfD; notified Robinmuilwijk (talk · contribs) 05:24, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Pretty clear fail of WP:NCORP in my view. I could not find any WP:SIGCOV. Citations are to press releases or government databases that index literally all the companies within the relevant jurisdiction. They have raised a grand total of $115,000 in funding. Notability tagged since 2013.
  7. Mifren nominated at AfD; notified Fuzkabir (talk · contribs) 14:41, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Long-defunct WP:PROMO for failed social networking site that does not pass WP:NCORP. All the refs are to press releases or its own (now non-existent) website. Only hits I can see in RS are for Multi Input Fuzzy Rules Emulated Network, a completely unrelated—and also apparently non-notable—concept in robotics.
  8. Sierra Holmes nominated at AfD; notified Peter Reynosa (talk · contribs) 01:05, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: I think this article fails WP:NACTOR. Sourced only to interviews in niche websites. The best I could find for coverage was this, which doesn't look like an RS; this is another interview; as is this. She competed on a season of Scream Queens and did not win. Notability tagged since 2012.
  9. World Orphans nominated at AfD; notified Neelix (talk · contribs) 03:39, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: I think this fails WP:NCORP but it's arguable—hence this sitting in CAT:NN since 2016. There was indeed a 2-page article in Inc about it in 2007: basically, World Orphans did not do its due diligence with overseas partners and ended up out $70k. Beyond that, there's not much else significant I can find. There's this in the Gaylord Herald Times (small local newspaper) and this (maybe an RS, but just a namedrop). I think this calls for a deletion discussion.
  10. Chaperone code nominated at AfD; notified BCinterim (talk · contribs) 05:22, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: This article claims that its subject "has been identified as one of the main regulatory mechanisms underlying cell function in biology". In support of this extravagant claim, it cites two papers from 2013. One has been cited 57 times; the other has been cited 131 times. "Chaperone code" gets a grand total of six hits at PubMed. In light of this, I have a very hard time believing that this article is verifiable.
  11. Vilant Systems nominated at AfD; notified Kdshals (talk · contribs) 14:09, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: A non-notable firm, now part of Turck. All the hits I found were in press releases or namedrops in trade journals. I don't think it makes sense to merge to Turck because there's nothing substantive to merge, and I don't think it makes sense to redirect to Turck because they're not similar enough that a redirect is warranted. So I suggest deleting instead.
  12. Singh-Ray nominated at AfD; notified Bressen (talk · contribs) 14:43, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Non-notable manufacturer of photographic filters. All the hits in RS are technical descriptions of a photo (e.g., "taken with a Singh-Ray filter"). Tagged for notability since 2009.
  13. VSXu nominated at AfD; notified Jawvvd (talk · contribs) 16:16, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: I think this fails WP:NSOFT. Prod contested by an IP who added this to the article. Looks like an interview with the founders. After I removed deadlinks, all the other sources are to current or archived versions of its website.
  14. Rick Sopher nominated at AfD; notified W R Brown (talk · contribs) 04:08, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: I declined this PROD because I think it's arguable, but I think the subject of this article fails WP:BASIC. He's occasionally quoted in the Financial Times, but I can't find coverage of him. He's a rich businessman: that's it. The article claimed he was awarded the Légion d'honneur, which would presumably get him past WP:ANYBIO, until I looked it up and could not find any coverage in RS indicating that this was true.
  15. Elmer Pendell nominated at AfD; notified 404A4BC76978E (talk · contribs) 17:55, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: A potentially non-notable eugenicist. I am seeking consensus on this, as notability has been tagged since 2012, the issue is highly charged, and I'm genuinely on the fence. I have just added the best sources I could find, and I'm not sure they're enough for WP:GNG. (I seriously doubt WP:NPROF is viable as a criterion.) I genuinely welcome any comments. A speedy was quite reasonably declined back in 2012.
  16. CarProperty.com nominated at AfD; notified Vishal1811 (talk · contribs) 04:13, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
  17. Revival Soy nominated at AfD; notified Soy Scientist (talk · contribs) 06:29, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Non-notable soy supplement. They apparently like to donate samples of their products of scientific studies (see, e.g., [3]) but I'm not seeing WP:SIGCOV of the company. Refs to those studies are a large quantity of the refs in the article; the others are largely to unreliable "bizjournals.com". I found a single article in the Winston-Salem Journal from October 26, 2003 called "Soy Successful" which is about the company, but (1) I don't have access to the whole thing; and (2) I don't think this one article is enough for notability.
  18. Saïd Akl nominated at AfD; notified Georges Aoun (talk · contribs) 15:51, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Very confusing. It's currently disambiguated from Said Akl. The Said Akl described in this article appears to be the father of the Said Akl described in [4] (in French) (appears notable). But I can't find anything about this one. I suppose this article could be entirely rewritten to be about the Said Akl described in the obit I cited, but that would be a bizarre kind of ATD, wouldn't it? frwiki and arwiki seem only to have articles on the very famous Said Akl. Hopefully someone can help clear this up.
  19. Eva Mroczek nominated at AfD; notified Kotharwahasis (talk · contribs) 17:46, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Scholar of Judaism who appears to fail WP:NPROF. Article is outdated: she's now an associate professor (i.e., not an endowed chair or university professor) at the University of California, Davis [5]. Oxford University Press publishes many, many books like hers [6] a year. Her book has been cited 116 times according to Google Scholar. Awards listed on her faculty profile are WP:ROUTINE. Other online hits like [7] are open letters she's signed; her work in the Los Angeles Review of Books and Religion Dispatches is exactly what mid-career academics publish all the time. Seems like she does interesting work, but doesn't appear notable—at least as yet.
  20. Parrots International nominated at AfD; notified Parrot Conservationist (talk · contribs) 04:29, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Great name for a non-notable parrot conservation association. Best I can do by way of WP:SIGCOV is [8], which is not very good. Tagged for notability since 2010.
  21. David Henke nominated at AfD; notified Henkepharazyn (talk · contribs) 05:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Appears to fail WP:BASIC. He's a run-of-the-mill business exec at some tech companies. Hits are mostly press releases; there's [9], but it's a namedrop.
  22. East Hill Church nominated at AfD; notified Marcustar (talk · contribs) 13:23, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Apparently non-notable church. There are hits ([10] (namedrop) [11] (WP:ROUTINE, I think)), but not enough for either WP:NORG or WP:GNG. Being a large church in a mid-size city does not confer notability, IMO. Tagged for notability for 11 years.
  23. Poesybeat nominated at AfD; notified Trotsky2008 (talk · contribs) 13:37, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
  24. Jordanian Arab Party nominated at AfD; notified Soman (talk · contribs) 14:55, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Non-notable political party. It exists ([13] [14]), and that appears to be it. Article in arwiki has exactly the same sources as this one—which I don't think are enough—and is also a stub.
  25. Big TV! nominated at AfD; notified Baby16 (talk · contribs) 19:04, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Procedural nom, as it was previously prodded. No indication of notability. Hits I can find (e.g., [15] and [16] appear to be non-RS promo sites.
  26. MaltaProfile nominated at AfD; notified BusinessAnalyst123 (talk · contribs) 21:12, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Another procedural nom for a non-notable website. 2017 prod contested by creator with no rationale.
  27. John Helvin nominated at AfD; notified Old and deaf (talk · contribs) 02:29, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Non-notable magic enthusiast (I would say "magician", but can't even verify that). The only hit I could find was for an edition he self-published of [17], a possibly notable 16th century treatise on magic.
  28. Vykunta Raju nominated at AfD; notified Aparnaathreya (talk · contribs) 03:41, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: This looks like a resume for a subject who does not meet either WP:BASIC or WP:NPROF, but I'm not sure. He has some publications (e.g., [18]). The article also says he's on the editorial board of Pediatrics and Therapeutics: Current Research", but its website does not look super legit to me.
  29. Polymer ratio nominated at AfD; notified Mdiproducts (talk · contribs) 04:44, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Appears to be a dicdef, and it's not clear to me how this would be expanded beyond one.
  30. River City Star nominated at AfD; notified Kahvc7 (talk · contribs) 05:14, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Advertisement for a non-notable cruise on the Missouri River. Coverage is either not about the cruise ([19]) or promo for the cruise ([20]).
  31. Association for Social Transparency, Rights and Action nominated at AfD; notified Gauravdce07 (talk · contribs) 16:28, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Fails WP:NORG. Some hits in RS ([21], [22]), but these are in passing. Tagged for notability for 9 years. Current sources are either deadlinks, non-RS, or do not mention the org.
  32. Jürgen Handke nominated at AfD; notified Wiebke123 (talk · contribs) 02:23, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Largely unsourced puff piece for a professor who does not appear to meet WP:NPROF. dewiki article is also largely unsourced. His book ([23]), published in 2012, has been cited 106 times according to Google Scholar.
  33. Fereshta Samah nominated at AfD; notified NeutralWriter (talk · contribs) 02:31, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Apparently non-notable singer. The sources cited in the last AfD are all dead, and the one source—which I auto-translated—appears to be an interview.
  34. George S. Elrick nominated at AfD; notified Rflejeune (talk · contribs) 02:53, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Fails WP:NAUTHOR. There is an obit in the Chicago Tribune ([24]) but that's all the sustained coverage I could find and since he was from Chicagoland it's arguably local coverage. Not to be confused with George Elrick.
  35. M&A Today nominated at AfD; notified Markrobbins12 (talk · contribs) 03:37, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Promo for a journal whose only function is promo. Redirect tp M&A Source is of dubious value since I'm not convinced that's notable either.
  36. Kukkuta Sastra nominated at AfD; notified Redaloes (talk · contribs) 03:51, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Now this is an interesting one. Ostensibly it is a form of divination based on the results of cockfighting. This would certainly be a notable topic if I could confirm that it is real. But my searches for "kukkuta sastra" and "cock astrology" got precisely zero hits on the Internet Archive and just one passing mention in [25]. So we seem to have a WP:V fail here. There is an article in the Telugu Wikipedia, but it has just one source.
  37. Roy Geronemus nominated at AfD; notified Lukay 79 (talk · contribs) 04:46, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: WP:PROMO for a run-of-the-mill dermatologist. Doctors are very often affiliated with prestigious hospitals, and very often publish in scientific journals.
  38. Hemmels nominated at AfD; notified Cayenne kid (talk · contribs) 04:59, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: WP:PROMO for a car restoration company founded in 2016. Refs are to niche websites for car enthusiasts. I don't subscribe to the Telegraph; that seems to be the only legit ref.
  39. Pesenti Family of Painters nominated at AfD; notified Rococo1700 (talk · contribs) 16:10, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: An apparent WP:V fail. The lone source (in Italian) has, by my count, one reference to the "famiglia Pesenti". Pesenti (famiglia) exists in itwiki, but it is about 20th century businesspeople, not 16th century artists. This would be an interesting and notable article if it verifiable, but I don't think it is.
  40. Alexander Zhmodikov nominated at AfD; notified Brandmeister (old) (talk · contribs) 16:34, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Apparent WP:NPROF/WP:NAUTHOR fail. No article in the Russian Wikipedia. He has a single article on JSTOR [26], with 66 cites per Google Scholar. Prod declined in October 2019.
  41. Blake Luttrell nominated at AfD; notified Nationapn (talk · contribs) 16:38, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Fails WP:NSOLDIER. Only claim to notability is receiving the Silver Star once, which is not his nation's highest award for valour.
  42. K. Radhakrishna Menon nominated at AfD; notified Aparna.ajju (talk · contribs) 23:16, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Appears to fail WP:BASIC. I found three very short obituaries for him ([27], [28], [29]). I suppose that could pass WP:THREE if one were feeling especially generous, but all they verify is basically his death date.
  43. Crowdynews nominated at AfD; notified Markvanderwalle (talk · contribs) 02:42, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: WP:PROMO for a startup that fails WP:NORG. [30] is the best I could do by way of coverage, and it looks like a press release.
  44. Ellie Robinson (politician) nominated at AfD; notified Documentbunny1 (talk · contribs) 03:41, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Does not meet WP:NPOL as a councillor for Newham and does not seem to meet WP:GNG. She most recently was an official on Keir Starmer's Labour leadership campaign (see [31]), but I'm not seeing the sustained coverage necessary for GNG.
  45. The Misadventures of Oscar McFoisy nominated at AfD; notified RuralBC (talk · contribs) 13:34, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Non-notable newspaper column with a charming title. Amazingly, it had zero hits at the Internet Archive, and all the Google hits appear to be WP mirrors. I was prepared to call it a hoax but it does appear in one of the ELs ([32]). (Incidentally, I have never seen an article with this many tags.)
  46. Daniel A. Ninivaggi nominated at AfD; notified RachelChada (talk · contribs) 16:10, 19 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Seeking consensus on a very close case on WP:BASIC. In addition to the usual barrage of press releases, there's coverage in major outlets (e.g., [33], [34]), but it either seems WP:ROUTINE or really about Icahn Enterprises. [35] seems to be about him personally, but I'm not sure if it's reliable. Has sat in CAT:NN since 2016, presumably because the case is so close. I would have considered a redirect, but since he's been an exec at a number of companies there's no clear target.
  47. Jodi Livon nominated at AfD; notified Info TIC (talk · contribs) 02:56, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: WP:FRINGEBLP of a probably non-notable subject. I just cut the WP:PROMO and unsourced material, but obviously feel free to revert partially or in full if you can verify the information. Analysis of sources below; don't think they combine to establish notability, and I couldn't find anything else.
    1. [36] Apparently reliable (Minnesota Monthly), but it's an interview.
    2. [37] Not reliable—archived version of her website.
    3. [38] Not reliable—YouTube video posted on her own channel.
    4. [39] Not reliable—YouTube video posted on her channel.
    5. Dead link.
    6. [40] Reliable (Star Tribune), but local coverage. All the other RS I could find ([41], [42]) are mirrors of this article, which was presumably from a syndicate.
    7. Her own book; unreliable primary source.
    8. Her own book; unreliable primary source.
  48. Nucleus Research nominated at AfD; notified NucleusResearch (talk · contribs) 03:47, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
  49. Western Sonoma County Historical Society nominated at AfD; notified Andy14and16 (talk · contribs) 05:40, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Entirely unsourced stub on a non-notable local history society. I am not seeing WP:SIGCOV[46] (p. 54) is the best I could do, and it's a capsule description. I thought about doing a WP:NPROF analog, by checking to see if it's been cited as a publisher or conservator of notable historical materials and/or influential in the field of history more broadly. By my reckoning, it hasn't. 23 hits on Google Scholar; 16 hits at the Internet Archive. It has also published a few local history books in collaboration with Arcadia Publishing, which seems to publish (good!) local histories on any community in the U.S. with someone willing to write one.
  50. Alexander Kalichuk nominated at AfD; notified Thunderbird star (talk · contribs) 13:15, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Fails WP:NSOLDIER as a sergeant (see Sergeant#Canada)), which is not a flag, general or air officer. Fails WP:NCRIME as merely a murder suspect without clear RS coverage. Fails GNG because there's nothing besides his military service and criminal allegations.
  51. Chandra Kalindi Roy Henriksen nominated at AfD; notified Rainmaker23 (talk · contribs) 15:01, 20 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Apparent fail of at least WP:V and apparently WP:NAUTHOR and WP:BASIC. I find this one very puzzling, since I was expecting it to be a slam dunk for notability. Her title—Chief of the Secretariat of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues—seems impressive, but it is at least currently not accurate (see [47]). Of the two sources for that claim in the article, the first ([48]) does not seem especially reliable, and the second ([49]) is a primary source on a now-dead website. I think the best argument for notability is actually WP:NAUTHOR, since her book Land Rights of the Indigenous Peoples of the Chittagong Hill Tracts has 100+ cites on Google Scholar. I was only able to find one review of it ([50]), however. The articles in other Wikipedias do not help with sourcing. Hoping to resolve this in any event, since it's been tagged for notability for four years. It was created by a sock, but I don't think that's relevant for notability purposes.
  52. Kunmudo nominated at AfD; notified Kvitorm (talk · contribs) 04:27, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Entirely unsourced WP:V fail. Claims it's a Korean martial art, but (1) there is apparently no article in the Korean Wikipedia; and (2) all the hits I found in the Roman alphabet are unreliable. In Hangul—according to this unsourced article, at least—it's 군무도. Maybe readers of Korean (which I am not) could evaluate any potential evidence for that search term.
  53. Four Foods Group nominated at AfD; notified SummitGroup (talk · contribs) 15:29, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: WP:PROMO for a business that fails WP:NCORP. Only hits are non-RS press releases and trade journals.
  54. Oldroyd Publishing Group nominated at AfD; notified Shedlord (talk · contribs) 15:34, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Procedural nom for a non-notable publisher. (CC DoubleGrazing.)
  55. Anastasia Trach nominated at AfD; notified Tonif (talk · contribs) 15:52, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Appears to fail WP:NSPORT, but there is no SNG for volleyball that I can find so am bringing to AfD for consensus. There is a better profile than this article here.
  56. Rinat Malzagov nominated at AfD; notified ZlatkoT (talk · contribs) 16:32, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Procedural nom for a singer who (I believe) clearly fails WP:SINGER. No equivalents in Cyrillic alphabet Wikipedias. Previous AfD closed as no consensus in 2006, and things have changed a lot since then.
  57. Anthony Wells nominated at AfD; notified Janj1115 (talk · contribs) 23:24, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Promotional BLP. Relevant SNGs seem to be WP:NSOLDIER and WP:NAUTHOR, and the subject of this article seems to fail both, as well as WP:BASIC. The sole claim to notability I can pull out is that he was the "only living person to have worked for British Intelligence as a British citizen and for US Intelligence as an American citizen" and it is "sourced" incredibly vaguely to "The Navy Lists (UK) 1964-1983 (Her Majesty’s Stationery Office, London)." Appears to be the same person as listed in his publisher's capsule bio([51]) which does not mention this distinction. The book is Between Five Eyes (ISBN 9781612009001), and I haven't had any luck finding reviews.
  58. Massimo Carello nominated at AfD; notified Alberto6578 (talk · contribs) 23:31, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Procedural nom, as this was previously prodded. Unsourced BLP of a non-notable wealthy person. Hits I can find are [52] (namedrop) and in the deprecated Daily Mail.
  59. Channel 4 News (United States) nominated at AfD; notified Georgia guy (talk · contribs) 00:10, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: An unsourced compendium of US news channels named "Channel 4" at one point or another. Not titled as a list, but that's what it basically is. Seems to fail WP:NOTDIR.
  60. Premama nominated at AfD; notified Grassroots24 (talk · contribs) 03:25, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: An apparent WP:CORPDEPTH fail. There are hits in legit sources [53], [54], but they are namedrops. Existing refs are largely either dead or not independent. Article has all the hallmarks of UPE.
  61. Thomsen Diagrams nominated at AfD; notified Maximross (talk · contribs) 03:31, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Seems to be a WP:NEOLOGISM. "Thomsen diagram" gets 2 hits on Google Scholar; "Thomsen diagram" gets 1. Bringing this to AfD because I also can't make head or tail of the dense, technical prose—perhaps there's something in here I haven't grasped.

    • Reason: Procedural nom, as my prod was just contested by an IP with no explanation. There is some coverage (e.g., [55]), but it's local (NB: CBC News has many local affiliates and publishes news from on all of them on one site.) I don't think the subject of this article meets WP:NCREATIVE or WP:BASIC, but would appreciate a consensus at any rate because this has been tagged for notability for 8 years.

The listed building is Leaskdale Manse (listing: [58]) and I don't think there's content here to merge into that article. It would be good to get consensus on this in some way or another in any event, since it's been sitting in CAT:NN since 2009.

Probably the best argument is NPROF#6—[t]he person has held a highest-level elected or appointed administrative post at a major academic institution or major academic society. Is Hiram College a major academic institution? My gut says no, but it's possible. Sourcing for the claim that he is "recognized as an expert on energy and telecommunications economics and regulation, infrastructure planning, and developing public-private partnerships" is primary.

I don't think WP:NPOL applies to someone who was chief economist for the US Dept of Labor for one year, but perhaps it does. His status as a conspiracy theorist is interesting, but I don't think there's evidence that he's notable as a conspiracy theorist. Bringing this here for consensus.

The article claims that he is a pioneer of the Ross procedure, but even his profile at Mount Sinai Hospital ([80]) doesn't go so far as this article does, and it's not clear to me whether his being a pioneer of the Ross procedure—which I was not able to verify—would make him notable. WP:NPROF/WP:NAUTHOR seem like possible SNGs, given that he has co-authored a number of widely cited papers (e.g., [81] in NEJM). • Reason: Procedural nom, as this was previously prodded. The subject of this article does not meet WP:NPROF, in my view. The claim in the article that she is a "university professor" is misleading. She is indeed a professor at Athens State University (see [90]), but not a university professor in the sense of a distinguished professor. Likewise, the claim that she is a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland is misleading, because you can pay to join the society as a "fellow". She is not an honorary fellow, which is the distinguished designation (see list here: [91]). Her book ([92]), coauthored with several others, was not published in a major university press. It's possibly self-published, actually, because the name of the press is the same as that of the (now indeffed) creator of this article Stmaurice1. Her publications are listed here: [93]. Most of the hits on Scholar are for a different Debra Baird, and there's nothing on JSTOR. I think the best bet for notability is WP:NAUTHOR, but I've had a really hard time finding reviews. There is one decent-sized review of Winning the Innovation Game (ISBN 9780425115312), which he co-authored in 1987, in the LA Times for March 5, 1987, but that's about it. I found this surprising, since Driving Growth Through Innovation (ISBN 9781576751879) has 300 cites on Scholar. All the other hits I could find were unreliable profiles from the speaking agencies he's affiliated with.

As TED (conference) puts it, TEDx conferences can be organized by anyone who obtains a free license from TED, and agrees to follow certain principles. I briefly considered paring it down to just the conferences with links, but of those only TEDxAuckland, TEDxLagos, TEDxSanta Cruz, and TEDxWellington have even a hint of independent coverage, and they can be handled with a category or just linked to on a see-also at TED (conference).

Actually, he's a member of the RSA fellowship, which is like a "friends of the RSA" society (see [104]). I was also not able to verify the claim that he is a recipient of the Prince Philip Designers Prize; all the sites that seem to verify this are WP mirrors. Searching for "device ecology" -loke on Scholar yields 177 results, which isn't nothing, but I'm not sure it's sufficient for a standalone article. For ease of reference, the top hit is doi:10.1145/1520340.1520661, which gets 10 cites. I considered a redirect to information ecology but it appears only vaguely related.

It is not clear to me that this festival has heft comparable to Sundance, Cannes, TIFF, etc.—especially since I don't see coverage in trade journals like the The Hollywood Reporter that would indicate industry prominence. But it might squeak by WP:GNG with some not insignificant local-ish coverage.

Many people are involved in creating pop hits, so singling out a producer for an article when there's little coverage of him in particular seems unreasonable IMO.

It's possible that [121] or [122] is related; all the other hits I could see are for phrases in which "Asia" and "commons" appear in the same line, as in when a photo of a place in Asia is sourced to Commons.

    • Reason: This is a case in which WP:NBASEBALL is technically met, but to such a degree that I fail to see how notability is actually established. (NBASEBALL says notability is presumed, not established, by a Major League appearance.) This player was a pinch runner for the Cubs in exactly one game in 1944 (confirmed at Baseball Reference: [123]). There is a capsule biography of him ([124]), which establishes that he existed and had a non-notable post-baseball career. He was also rated the "most obscure Cub to wear" in a history of the Cubs ([125]). I fail to see this confers notability, as it would be rather backwards to suggest that being named "most obscure" by a single publication in fact makes you notable. But perhaps it does. This has been tagged for notability for five years, so it'd be good to resolve this one way or another.

    • Reason: Social entrepreneur who fails WP:BASIC. The best I could do by way of coverage is [126], a passing mention in the NYT, and [127] (interview in the Boston Globe, which is local coverage for a Boston-based exec). His best claim to notability is being the CEO of a non-notable nonprofit. Previous AfD closed as no consensus in 2008, and a lot has changed since then.
  12. Travel aversion nominated at AfD; notified Gzorg (talk · contribs) 04:07, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: No evidence that this is a phenomenon that has been the subject of sustained comment by academics or laypeople. In total, there are 24 hits for it on Google Scholar, and most appear to be more or less casual, non-technical uses. The term was used as a study parameter in doi:10.1300/J073v20n01_01 and briefly commented in doi:10.1111/1468-5973.12213, but there is very little else substantial I can see. While it is true that people may not like to travel in certain circumstances, it is not clear to me that this topic could be the subject of an article that does not consist of synthesis or original research.

I found two references to it in The Assam Tribune ([132] and [133]) and a brief mention in a book on fermented foods [134], but these references verify very little besides the existence of the festival. It may be a variant of Bihu, in which case a delete-and-redirect there is possible. Articles in other Wikipedias do not help with sourcing.

The best sources I could find in a search were [136] (local newspaper, not really SIGCOV IMO), [137] (looks like SIGCOV, but not clearly independent—I'm rather suspicious of "business journals"), [138] (looks decent, thought not entirely sure if reliable), and [139] (not great either). So seeing a lot of mediocre coverage, but not really WP:CORPDEPTH.
  19. The Flick Law Firm nominated at AfD 04:17, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Personal injury law firm that fails WP:NCORP. The awards are not convincing: many, many firms and lawyers are rated in some capacity by Avvo, and being reviewed by the BBB is hardly an award. Parroting Scope_creep here, I'd also call this native advertising.

  2. Jill O'Sullivan nominated at AfD; notified Thackerthanthis (talk · contribs) 17:22, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: This has been sticking around the new pages queue since August, so I'm seeking consensus. Seems like a borderline case for WP:MUSICBIO based on [166] and [167], but I'm not absolutely clear on notability so am bringing it here.
  3. Francesca De Grandis nominated at AfD; notified Holzman-tweed (talk · contribs) 04:53, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Fails WP:NAUTHOR and WP:BASIC. I count one very short review of one of her books ([168]) and virtually nothing else.
  4. UK Watch nominated at AfD; notified JK the unwise (talk · contribs) 00:04, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Fails WP:GNG and WP:NWEB; tagged for notability since 2009 with no improvement. A website that apparently failed to launch, since the URL is now occupied by an unrelated site. The lone source is barely a blurb and I wasn't able to find anything else.
  5. List of places visited by Guru Nanak nominated at AfD; notified Gursharan327 (talk · contribs) 00:10, 14 November 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Almost entirely unreferenced list that, I believe, fails WP:INDISCRIMINATE. Will happily withdraw if it turns out that these visits form a coherent set meeting WP:LISTNGuru_Nanak#Journeys_(Udasis) suggests that they might—but at present I'm not seeing it.
  6. Evan Ryan nominated at AfD; notified Flatterworld (talk · contribs) 16:42, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
  7. Success is unbounded nominated at RfD; notified Szinvailevente (talk · contribs); Target: Social status (notified) 21:39, 26 November 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: This might actually be an article, but it's functioning as a redirect now and I think the title has so vague a connection with social status that this should just be deleted.

December 2020[edit]

  1. Perspective Getting nominated at AfD; notified LM14840 (talk · contribs) 04:35, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
  2. Urban Alliance Foundation nominated at AfD; notified Nmoran (talk · contribs) 17:42, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Promo for a non-notable organization, apparently co-founded by Jeffrey Zients. I see virtually no independent, secondary sources.
  3. Charles Cicchetti nominated at AfD; notified Gwaschbusch (talk · contribs) 06:02, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Economist who may fail WP:NPROF. He has reasonable cites on Scholar, but most of the highly-cited papers are co-authored. His official bio claims he was the Jeffrey J. Miller Professor in Government, Business, and the Economy at USC, but I cannot find independent confirmation that this position exists (and seems odd that he would be appointed as an endowed chair right after being an adjunct). In the news now for filing a declaration in Texas v. Pennsylvania, but WP:BLP1E.
  4. Category:Prominent members of the Oxford University L'Chaim Society nominated at CfD (CfD); notified Diaz Benson (talk · contribs) 05:31, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
  5. Doctors for America nominated at AfD; notified Mssfurmn (talk · contribs) 01:21, 14 December 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Appears to fail WP:NORG due to a lack of in-depth coverage in secondary sources. I considered a redirect to Vivek Murthy, but as he's a co-founder we'd have a WP:XY problem.
  6. Leslie Landau: nominated at AfD; notified Adin-Atherton (talk · contribs) 04:54, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
  7. Category:Jewish Japanologists: nominated at CfD (CfD); notified Lud.Tischler (talk · contribs) 03:54, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: Per WP:OCEGRS. I have a very hard time believing that being Jewish and a Japanologist is a WP:DEFINING feature of any of the scholars tagged here.
  8. Category:American scientists of Italian descent: nominated at CfD (CfD); notified IntoThinAir (talk · contribs) 07:55, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
    • Reason: WP:OCEGRS. I am quite skeptical that being "of Italian descent" is a WP:DEFINING feature of the American scientists in this category.

January 2021[edit]

  1. Category:Gay academics: nominated at CfD (CfD); notified Zigzig20s (talk · contribs) 17:34, 7 January 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: WP:OCEGRS. For some reason this is restricted to people who identify as men—but the term "gay" can be used to refer to nonbinary folks, women, and men. Category:LGBT studies academics is a legitimate category, but this is not.
  2. Eugene Goodman (police officer): nominated at AfD; notified Cbl62 (talk · contribs) 16:20, 14 January 2021 (UTC)
  3. Seneca Mission Indian Church Grounds Desecration: nominated at AfD; notified Truthunmasked (talk · contribs) 00:36, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: Essay on local history, based on original research, with a strong point of view. I can find no reliable sources describing the alleged desecration as such.
  4. Robert Akerlof: nominated at AfD; notified Itsactuallyrig (talk · contribs) 18:58, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

April 2021[edit]

  1. Ken McNeil: nominated at RfD; Target: Kent McNeil (notified) 17:57, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: Might qualify for WP:R3, but if I read the guideline correctly I should be bringing this here. Article was created under an incorrect name—the subject's name is Kent, not Ken, McNeil, and I don't know of any instance in which he's referred to by Ken sans T.

May 2021[edit]

  1. Yizzy: nominated at AfD; notified Dominicono (talk · contribs) 00:31, 12 May 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: This is a tough one (not least because I'm a fan). There is coverage - see, eg, [170], [171], [172], [173], [174], [175], but virtually all of it is heavily interview-based or promotional, or both. The closest to critical commentary I see is [176] (on the BBC). Tagged for notability since its creation in 2018, so it'd be nice to resolve this in any event.

August 2021[edit]

  1. List of hip hop albums considered to be influential: nominated at AfD; notified TUF-KAT (talk · contribs) 00:46, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: Inclusion criteria for this list are necessarily arbitrary, contrary to WP:INDISCRIMINATE. Tagged as a WP:ESSAY since 2019, which policy it also arguably fails.

September 2021[edit]

  1. ÏCE Condominiums at York Centre: nominated at AfD; notified B137 (talk · contribs) 20:38, 2 September 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: Fails WP:NBUILD and WP:GNG. A condo complex in a city with a surfeit of such. Brief mentions in reputable media such as The Globe and Mail re: its allegedly huge number of Airbnb units, but no in-depth coverage of the building or its architecture.

October 2021[edit]

  1. Rex Martin: nominated at AfD; notified Lmcelhiney (talk · contribs) 01:07, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
  2. Driving Instructors (Registration) Act 2016: nominated at AfD; notified Tracland (talk · contribs) 04:56, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: Article on a non-notable statute, sourced entirely to Hansard and text of the statute itself. (And therefore WP:OR.) AFAIK, statutes are subject to the same notability standards as any other topic, and this one fails WP:GNG.
  3. Foster v. Wolkowitz: nominated at AfD; notified GlassLogic (talk · contribs) 03:20, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: Apparently insignificant court case cited a grand total of 19 times according to Google. Couldn't find any real hits for either of the citations: 785 N.W.2d 59, 486 Mich. 356.
  4. List of Recorders of Penang, Singapore and Malacca: nominated at AfD; notified Find bruce (talk · contribs) 23:52, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: There may be a rationale for delimiting this list to cover all and only recorders of Penang, Malacca, and Singapore from 1808 to 1867, but I don't see it. All of these places were part of the Straits Settlements, but there were other colonies in the Straits Settlements. And 1808 doesn't seem to be a significant date in the history of any of these places, unless the position of recorder was inaugurated then (a fact not alluded to in the article). This says that a British colonial court opened in Penang on 31 May 1808, presided over by a recorder, but this says that a unified court for Penang, Malacca, and Singapore didn't exist until 27 November 1826, pursuant to the Second Charter of Justice (an article that now goes on my list to create). All in all, I'm quite confused and think this list fails WP:INDISCRIMINATE and WP:NLIST.

November 2021[edit]

  1. Melanie Reinhart: nominated at AfD; notified MayoPaul5 (talk · contribs) 02:13, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: This is a WP:FRINGEBLP of a non-notable subject. I can find no reviews of her books in reliable sources for WP:NAUTHOR. I don't think winning the Charles Harvey Award for Exceptional Service to Astrology ([177]) counts for WP:ANYBIO. The best source I could find is [178], but it's a book by astrologers published by an occult publisher.
  2. Spoken Web: nominated at AfD; notified Eyalshalom (talk · contribs) 20:12, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: Website and organisation that appears to fail WP:NORG. There is a project based in India by the same name that may be notable (doi:10.1007/978-3-642-11322-2_4, doi:10.1145/1943403.1943484, [179]), and the general concept of audio-based access to the internet is probably notable, but this website based in Tel Aviv does not appear notable. I found this page while looking for Spoken Web, a Canadian site for oral history of literature—yet another unrelated project.
  3. De Verley: nominated at AfD; notified OsirisV (talk · contribs) 01:37, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: Unsourced permastub that can't be turned into a dab because there's nothing to disambiguate. I would redirect to Varley but there's no one named "de Verley" on that page.
  4. Mark Jenkins (fitness trainer): nominated at AfD; notified Helioprmedia (talk · contribs) 04:11, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

December 2021[edit]

  1. Achilles Alexandrakis: nominated at AfD; notified Mallaccaos (talk · contribs) 06:03, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
    • Reason: This is an interesting one. Article on an obscure fictional character entirely unsourced since it was created in 2006. I just created Jennette Lee. She wrote the novel Mr. Achilles, of which Achilles Alexandrakis is the titular character. Lee is certainly notable, Mr. Achilles might be depending on how many reviews are lurking around, but the protagonist of this forgotten novel almost certainly isn't notable. Repurposing to an article on the novel would require hjiacking the title and there's nothing sourced to merge to Jennette Lee or Mr. Achilles (assuming that could legitimately be created).

January 2022[edit]

  1. Category:Books about American repression: nominated at CfD (CfD); notified PasswordUsername (talk · contribs) 03:21, 2 January 2022 (UTC)
    • Reason: Unclear conclusion criteria, thereby failing WP:INDISCRIMINATE. "Repression" is a contested, diffuse concept that is not made clearer by adding "American" to it. Only one of the members uses the word "repression" in the body or title—Political Repression in Modern America.
  2. The Game of Alice in Wonderland: nominated at AfD; notified Therealrobstone (talk · contribs) 02:08, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
    • Reason: I came across this while trying to clean up Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The two sources are dead, as is the link in the attribution template on Talk:The Game of Alice in Wonderland. There is another game, called The New & Diverting Game of Alice in Wonderland, which is probably not notable either but which I see some hits for: [180] [181]. I'd happily be proven wrong here but I don't see a GNG pass
