The Generators are an American punk rock band formed in 1997 in Los Angeles, created as a response to the breakup of the 1990s punk rock group Schleprock.[1] The original lineup was composed of Doug Kane on vocals, Mike Snow and Sir Doosky on guitars, Dirty Ernie Berru on the drums and Rich "Richards" Santia on bass.

The Generators' first album, Welcome To The End, was released by Los Angeles–based Triple XXX Records in 1997.[1] After positive reviews of their debut album, they followed up with a seven-song EP Ninety Nine and two more albums by 2001, Burning Ambition on Urgent Music Ltd. and Tyranny on TKO Records, and another eight-song EP called State of the Nation on TKO. Original guitarist Mike Snow left the band after this run of LPs, which then saw The Generators enter a new era and shift in musical direction from their original street punk sound.

Between 2003 and 2009, they released four more albums; Excess Betrayal...And Our Dearly Departed, The Winter Of Discontent, The Great Divide, and Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea. All four albums were primarily released in Europe on People Like You Records, and were not easy to find in the United States unless imported or from the band themselves at a show. During this period, Kane, Doosky and Dirty Ernie remained as the pillars of the band seeing various guitarist and bass players come and go.

In 2008, original drummer Dirty Ernie left the Generators and his drums to pursue his career as a rock tribute band singer. 2010 saw original guitarist, Sir Doosky leave the band due to personal reasons. Both Sir Doosky along with Dirty Ernie and former Generators bassist, Brandon Lutz formed a short lived project called NeuAllies, which lasted from 2013-2014.

In 2011, original guitarist Mike Snow rejoined permanently and the band recorded/released their eighth studio album called Last Of The Pariahs with DC-Jam Records, receiving positive reviews. They followed the release with tours in the US and Europe.

The group released another six-song EP with Concrete Jungle records in 2013 called The Deconstruction of Dreams.

In 2013, the Generators joined Randale Records with whom their latest album Life Gives-Life Takes was released in early 2014. In mid-2014 the band played several gigs, festivals, and radio shows to support their latest release, as well as releasing music videos.

Kane and Snow were involved in a side project called the Bedlam Knives who released a 7-inch on Dr. Strange Records.

2015 saw the re-mastering and re-release of their first two albums which had both been long out of print. Welcome To The End was released by Dr. Strange Records and Burning Ambition by Crowd Control Media. Both releases had new artwork and newly added bonus tracks.

In 2016, the band released a retrospective album called Earn Your Stripes on Randale Records. It included many of the band's hits over their almost 20-year history as well as multiple new songs. They also released a split EP with the British band Crashed Out called "Blood, Sweat, & Glory", followed by another tour.

In 2017 the band released a new 7" single called "Street Justice" on Pirates Press Records and Randale Records, and announced the completion of a new album. In 2018 they released their tenth studio album Broken Stars & Crooked Stripes on Randale Record and toured again through the US and Europe.

After more than 20 years of constant touring, over 20 releases including ten albums, the Generators took a hiatus in 2019, being inactive for the longest stretch of the band's career. Kane reunited with his 1980s Oi! band Doug & The Slugz, and began touring and recording with them during the Generators' hiatus. They released several 7 inch singles of re-recordings of their original songs from the 1980s plus an album.

2022 reunion[edit]

On September 20, 2022, the band announced via their social media platforms the reunion of the original 1997 founding member lineup. The band played a handful of shows throughout the end of 2022, celebrating and playing material off the first three releases.

2023 onward[edit]

After positive reaction and reviews of The Generators reunion shows, Kane, Doosky and Snow continued on with the addition of Ted Hahn on bass and Marco Duarte on drums. The band played the sold out Punk Rock Bowling Festival in Las Vegas followed by a European tour in the summer of 2023.

Death of Doug Kane[edit]

Doug Kane passed away on May 30, 2024 after a short battle with an aggressive cancer. The band all came to a mutual agreement before Kane's passing that they will not continue The Generators without him. [2]
