Choosing what to link to

The point of a disambiguation page is not to link to all articles that might conceivably be related to the title. Per WP:DAB, "Disambiguation is required whenever, for a given word or phrase on which a reader might use the "Go button", there is more than one existing Wikipedia article to which that word or phrase might be expected to lead," and admonishes us to "only include related subject articles if the term in question is actually described on the target article." I don't see how this applies to any of the terms listed on the DAB page, except for "Positive Action" (the name of a group which is identical to the title of this article), "Positive Action Group" (the name of a group which includes the title of this article), and "Affirmative action" (the name used in the US for various policies, some of which are referred to as "Positive action" in the UK). As far as I am aware, Gravitropism and Lynchet are never called "positive action," and the term is not used on those pages; the same goes for the other articles. So, I'm removing all but these entries from the page, and would ask editors who add further entries to explain here how those entries fit the criteria specified at WP:DAB.VoluntarySlave (talk) 02:17, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Choosing what not to link to without checking, Pain in the Neck, let's not link to that.

• The Police in the UK and the UN from outside the UK refer to Affirmative Action. The BBC slates it. The Law (which is not the police) refers to it as equality law.

• WP:DAB says that Dabs are disputes (now that is old and uncared for) and goes on to say where they are "required". That means where they are essential, cannot be done without, propping the place up lest it fell apart. The example it gives right beside that assertion is Rice (disambiguation). Prime example, top of the list. Have a look and then, while you are still ignoring the world read the sources that I left for you and others with the pig head who cannot see the forest (positive actions) for the trees (Affirmative Action).

Positive action made sense before there was slavery and after too, and yet Affirmative Action was still unheard of

• Yahnkee Doodle went to town a-riding on a pony. He stuck a feather in his hat and called it - macaroni. Well this bird is free Yahnkee Doodle. I do not want to call my feathered hat macaroni. Macaroni is a sort of pasta and if you put feathers in my dinner without any spare, it wouldn't be very nice now would it?

It is commendable that people take positive action toward social equality for women, disabled and ethnic groups. That does not mean that positive action cannot be taken for commendable results in things not even related to that. What I am doing here is almost opposite to making people beleive that positive action is toward social equality for women, disabled and minority ethnics and yet it is a positive action. People need simple education but if you took the word "awareness" and made people beleive it meant teaching your kids to behave and nothing else it would be simple but it would not be good education. "Awareness" is a word with many similar meanings.

Here is a small group of references to "positive action" which are not styled on "Affirmative Action" at all. Hopefully, if someone just looks at a few, it might renew the awareness of what "positive action" is if nothing else. Some of them are top notability such as standard English language teaching practice and obvious play-on-words such as HiV/AiDS groups, etc., etc. Thank you for having an open mind and accepting that positive action is a common turn of phrase equated from positive+action rather than Affirmative Action+Positive Action=Makes sense and why not add "Worthwhile causes" for the aussies and "Special needs" for the irish. To hell with all the currect worthwhile causes and special needs topics, Affirmative Action, right there at home in the belt, is the standard by which the world is judged. Would you pass a samaritan on the street? No you'd walk right up and shake his hand, of course.

I wrote something about this last week, how all phrases can come to mean only one thing. User:RTG/Creative energy and needful things. If you think that the rest of the world is falling behind Affirmative Action, you are sadly misinformed. How is your justice system doing for the blacks right now? Making many phrases mean one thing informs us of less. That is what you would call Negative Education. EDUCATION IS SO IMPORTANT THAT THE BLACKS AND IRISH WOULD STILL BE SLAVING AWAY AND DYING AGED 30 IF IT WERE NOT VERY WELL PRACTICED. IN EDUCATION, AS CAN BE SEEN IN THE LINKS I HAVE ADDED WITH THIS THREAD, positive action is an essential practice recognised equally in US but not as Affirmative Action, and kids taught positively are shown to be less dangerous, less drug addicted, all that stuff, and if Positive action (disambiguation) does not show a link to those things, someone has hidden them. It is a dis-service. How can we excuse that? We cannot. I gave Wikipedia money to spread knowledge without predjudice. I expect to see it spread in that way. If you cannot grow unpredjudiced knowledge, you can not grow upredjudiced existence and what is worse, you should not. Hypocrasy is always shown to be a hidden unequal gain agenda. I suppose, as suggested a few times recently, irish can be viewed as historically racist and oppressive. Well, lets look at Rice (disambiguation):

Main topic - Rice, a cereal grain

Geography - Six places called "Rice"

Institutions - Four educational institutions, all called "Rice"

Music - A band and a record label, both called "Rice"

Other uses - Six other pages, all of which either contain "Rice" in their name or are phrases for which "RICE" can serve as an acronym.

The common denominator here is that these are all things that are called "Rice." Likewise, this disambiguation page should only contain links to articles about things that are called "Positive action," because the point of the disambiguation page is to guide users who are looking for "positive action," to the page that they were looking for. Adding a bunch of links to things which are not called "positive action," but which you for some reason have decided are actions that might be considered positive, or somehow involve the word "positive" in some way, is not helpful, because it makes it harder for readers of Wikipedia to find what they are looking for. So please, as I asked before, explain why you think each term you have listed on this page might be the page that somebody searching for "positive action" would be looking for.VoluntarySlave (talk) 08:52, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

• Positive non-interventionism - can't really say that this one is referred to as a positive action, just stuck it in there, a positive action

• Positive politeness - any politeness with positive intentions, a positive action
• Positive SETI - the psoitve value of SETI, actively seeking and encouraging alien life instead of just listening for it (sending out little messages etc.), a positive action

• Political activism - a primary definition of action for which the term "positive action" is most commonly used
• Positive affectivity - didn't you just make up "respond"?

• Positive mental attitude - nothing is more relevant to acting positively than a positive mental attitude

I am not opposed to seeing positive action tied to equality and reform but I am opposed to seeing it tied to nothing else. It's not neutral to remove any positive action based on "Because I said so" or "I didn't like it". They are all confirmed positive actions. There is no other qualification nessecary. Let's now see you describe any of these positive actions as not a positive action or any of these things related to positive actions as not related. I am bored of it. can you not just evaluate each one based on, "Is it a positive action or not?" and then arrange them all in the way that upsets you the least? That is room for a great compromise. ~ R.T.G 10:30, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
